Tranny problems 07 jeep

I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (3.7L) with 107,000 miles. About a 2-3 weeks ago it revved up once when I shifted into drive - just that one time so I thought maybe my foot hit the gas accidentally. About a month ago it kind of hesitated a little when I yielded at a crossroad - again just one time. Last week while driving on the interstate it started slightly "bumping forward". It was almost like someone tapped on the brakes or like it was trying to shift. It repeatedly did this the entire way home and the next day - sometimes it would be a fairly forceful "lurch or jerk forward" almost acting like it's going to stall but doesn't. Of course there are no warning or check engine lights and it won't do it for the tech when it's in the shop. They want me to bring it in when its acting up but it is never consistent. I'm guessing it is a tranny issue but can't check the fluid because of the sealed transmission. I've only owned it since June so I'm not sure when or what's been done to it. Any suggestions?

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

Eventhough the "check engine" light is not on, i would still check for any fault codes set, just to be sure.
Iīm not so convinced that the problem is transmission related, seems more as an engine problem. Almost if the TPS (integral part of the throttle body) is acting up. With a scanner with live data you should be able to see if the TPS is a fixed value, or if it bounches when the problem is there.
I donīt know if you will be doing your maintenance yourself, but it is possible to buy a dipstick for this transmission. You can not leave it in the transmission, but at least will be able to check the level yourself. Probably some other member on here knows where to get this dipstick. (there are several ones on e-bay for the NAG1 transmission)

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

Thanks. No codes.... And I won't be doing the work.... What should I have them check first? Obviously the tranny fluid - but what else?

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

Do you know the maintenance history of the jeep? If not, i would start with a full tune-up. ( plugs, air filter etc).
Is there any special circumstance that the problem happens? For example only during raining, or when below a certain temperature etc?

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

I've only owned it since June so I'm not sure of the maintenance history. I will schedule a tune up. It is more random - hasn't rained or been real cold....

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

Lets see how it behaves after the tune-up. But also see if you can find any similarities on the circumstances when the problem arrises. Many times a problem which seems to be happening randomly, has one thing in common when it happens. Maybe not your case, but it could help in the trouble shooting.

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

Got a tuneup today & the mechanic said the fuel filter wasn't serviceable. Where is the fuel filter in a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 3.7L?

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

Still doing it. Tune up with new air filter, plugs, oil filter, cleaned the throttle body... Feels almost like the brakes are engaging repeatedly. Does it at all speeds but not all the time.... And it never does it for the mechanic.... Bought seafoam and will try running that through the tank with better fuel.... Any suggestions? Please help!

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

A scanner should be connected while driving, so that several sensors can be monitored when the problem is there. As mentioned before, i would check the TPS position and see if it changes at the moment the problem is there.
The fuel filter is in the fuel pump module.

Re: Tranny problems 07 jeep

Im not familiar with the shifter assy myself, but i know that many already had problems with it and that cleaning of the unit can help. Do a search on here to see if there is a how to for the cleaning.
