Vehicle Phone needs service?

HELP! I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee. About a month ago I started getting an error message in my navigation screen that says "vehicle phone needs service contact dealer". Off to the dealer I went. They replaced my radio (still trying to figure that one out). Yesterday it started again - message appeared 3 different times.

The dealer has no idea how to fix this or where the issue it's located. Heck, I didn't even know the vehicle has a phone. I contacted UConnect and Jeep Care. The person at Jeep says there is an issue with the internal phone and it needs replaced.

I asked where this "phone" is. They couldn't tell me. I called dealer back - spoke to the lead Jeep service tech, he told me he's never heard this.

Has anybody had this issue? How did they fix it? Any advice.

PS the funny in all of this the person at Jeep solution take it to another dealer. (Sign)

Re: Vehicle Phone needs service?

The phone card is in the radio head unit. My 14 has had this issue since delivery in Nov 13. I had the radio replaced in April, but 3 weeks later, the error persisted. It may be related to a faulty connection with the antenna. That's what I plan to have them check when I I get it back in the shop. One of the forum members suggested this helped his, but I have not heard anything lately. I think the trouble code is B1360 or something similar, I don't have the details with me.

I'll post if I see improvement after warranty service.

Well as this whole U-Connect gets worse ... Did you know they don't know how to fix the UConnect system? (Sigh)

Please search for earlier posts by me and share the info with your dealer. Open antenna issue.

Re: Vehicle Phone needs service?

I've had this same issue with my '14 GJC as well. I took it back to the dealership several times, but they couldn't figure out the problem. They told me it may have something to do with the UCONNECT software. That the software was having trouble making updates compatible with all three phone types (apple, android, blackberry) at the same time.

The only reason I'm responding is so that I can receive a feed whenever someone figures out a solution. I've had my GJC since 4th July 2013, and been having this problem since August 2013.

Re: Vehicle Phone needs service?

My JGC horror gets worse .... After the 5th radio replacement, all of which were refurbished, I refused to let them put another radio in. Chrysler would not approve a new radio unit even though the vehicle is 4 months old and has 6700 miles. About 2 weeks ago Chrysler finally agreed to ship a new radio. They put it in July 7th. (Wait for it) ..... The "new" radio shorted out the instrument panel.

The Jeep has been at the dealer since July 14th. They say the new instrument panel will be in on July 25. To replace it the dealer has to call Chrysler, have another one made then shipped back to dealer. Since the odometer is digital the car can't be moved while waiting for this part.

So again I've paid yet another car payment when my car is at the dealer. 4th payment ... 7th MAJOR issue.

Did I mention that Chrysler won't help me any longer because I've retained legal council. I'm tired! I believe this is why more people don't log complaint for lemon laws, it is taking everything I have to stay on top of this.

Wow! I get that message as well here and there. Sux you have to go through all that OP! I think for the time being i leave this as is. Whenever i hit the assist button the phone works. Maybe its just that message that gets triggered in error?

You might try Uconnect 14.25.05, just out. There should be a TSB at wk2jeeps soon.

Vehicle Phone needs service?

I will find the paperwork later tonight and post the code for the open antenna. I can almost guarantee this is the issue. The only real fix is to replace the antenna and cable. That is what finally fixed mine. Once that was done no more phone requires service messages. It was two radios before they finally replaced the antenna. Figured they would have had a Star case for it once they got mine fixed.

This has nothing to do with the type of phone you are pairing. This is strictly the radio phone module and the antenna. The dealer service tech who said that is smoking some good stuff if he really believed that bunk!

Re: Vehicle Phone needs service?

Sorry about the delay. Here is what is on the Work Order from my last round. If the new UConnect Software does not fix this issue you may need to ask them if they have pulled any codes, and if so does the one below show up.

Customer States Phone Service Msg displays
Pulled Code B1560-13 Tested Antenna and Antenna Cables found the Antenna open
Replaced Antenna assembly
Parts: SO 1YG06KFSAC ANTENNA-BASE CABLE AND BRACKET

(note: part number may differ as this came pre-painted)

Re: Vehicle Phone needs service?

Well Major Tom ..... I've been through 6 radios, last one on July 7th caused the dash to go out. Jeep sat at the dealer 11 days. Got it back Friday night. Driving to work Saturday morning .... Got my favorite message "vehicle phone needs service"

Left work last night, radio was stuck on a station, none of the buttons worked including the "tune" button on screen.

I give up (sigh) did I mention I have 6900 miles and have owned 4 months

Best comment ever came from service manager yesterday
Me: I'm not letting you put another radio in
SM: at this point I don't think it's the radio
Me: well DUH ... I think I ask you that after the 2, 3, 4, 5 AND 6th radio

I'd go to another dealer but I've been told if I do that then I have to start the process all over again
