Re: vibration /rattle noise 2014 gc laredo

Thank you JeepTek78 and Truckie!!!

Thanks for chasing this issue down. I just applied the fix that you posted and so far the rattling has stopped.

Refer to a post from Stevem65 for a picture, 2014 V6 Rattle?.

Thanks Stevem65 for posting a pic.

I only took for a 10 minute test run around my neighborhood but so far so good. I was always able to reproduce the problem every time I drove my JGC. It happened every time I drove it.

For future reference and for anyone reading this post in the future, I own a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited and this resolved the rattle noise that sounded like it was coming from the driver's side upper dash. This would happen when at speeds of less than 10 MPH or when lightly accelerating from 0 to 10 MPH. I believe my GC was built December 2013.

Thanks again! That noise was driving me crazy.

This is my 3rd GC and I am little disappointed that these 2014 Grand Cherokees pass quality control with these annoying problems.

Now I need to get to the bottom of two other issues. Will let the dealer handle those though.

I will start another thread for the high pitched noise that I am hearing out of the engine compartment. It sounds like one of pulleys on the belt system, the power steering or the alternator.

I also feel a vibration in steering at speeds of 65 - 75 MPH. I read TSB on this, http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_2200114.pdf.

Re: vibration /rattle noise 2014 gc laredo

Hello community, Iím new here as a member but for a long time as reader of the threads.
To all of the ones who havenít made it with the dash vibration noise till now:
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 2015 and it was horrible to notice this noise at the extreme left (drivers side) near A column at approx. 2000 rpm in charge and not finding any solution, because none of the cautions described in this forum were the origin.
The noise had three causes:
1) The plastic/rubber cover of the A column. It vibrated against the A column.
2) The Hand brake cable. It has contact with other parts (basically with some harness)
3) A piping attached to the plastic/rubber part described in 1), and even being protected with foam material it would vibrate.
First of all, the part is difficult to get to. It is a little above the hand brake and behind the founded aluminum part of the dash which is screwed to the A column.
So you have to introduce your hand from below and get behind the hand brake. Caution, as I experienced harmfully, there are many cutting edges from metal frames.
Now, hammer softly with your fingers to the wall moving around until you will hear something like the same sound that gets on your nerves. This was, in my case one source.
Put a rubber stopper between the founded aluminum part of the dash and the wall/column cover where they get narrow.
Then you will feel an attached cable to the same part you hammered on. This part sounds too. Put another rubber stopper between cable and wall/column cover. And finally on your way to the wall you cross the hand brake cable. Move it and you hear rattle as well. So I fixed the cable with cable ties at two points.
A last issue was, that a plastic part rattled in the hand brake mechanism as well, however I am not sure it is a source as well, even then I put a very small rubber in as well.
I am searching this noise for a month now and the dealer (very polite and willing to help) couldnít find it and I didnít want the dash to be removed, to prevent other noises in the future.
I hope this helps to some body. Itís a pane that we spend so much money in this car to have such cheap work done, on a car that deserves better and all the time we spent looking for the noiseÖ

My model is JGC 2015 Overland 5.7 and I'm having the same issue. I don't have the bracket discussed earlier and because it's a V8, I don't have the same engine hoses that have also been identified as a cause.

Your description and fix looks promising, but I'm having problems isolating the exact location of cause.

I found two hoses and trying to figure out which one is the one you are talking about, and where the panel adjustments need to be made relative to the hose. I've attached photos of both hoses, one attached to the back of instrument cluster, the other runs behind the brake pedal up the A-pillar, but I'm not sure which part of it is vibrating.

I was wondering if you would be able help me pinpoint where the problem is?

Re: vibration /rattle noise 2014 gc laredo

Hi
Glad to help. Please give me detailed description of the noise and under which circumstances it is produced. My description is older and later on the noise came back. So I found it on a completely different location.

Re: vibration /rattle noise 2014 gc laredo

It's a somewhat faint buzzing/vibration sound coming from the lower driver's side dash area. It's intermittent and I'm not sure if it's temp-related but I'm inclined to say it's worse under cool conditions. It's most noticeable when the engine is lugging or under some load. For example, if you hold the brake and put it into reverse and give it some gas to get the RPM up to 1500 or so it will be most noticeable. Also, I've noticed it sometimes while accelerating in ECO mode.

Is this similar to what you're experiencing?

Re: vibration /rattle noise 2014 gc laredo

hello hindog
There are two main places the noise came from:
1) In the a-column drivers side
2) Dashboard above brake pedal
For 1) Believe it or not, but the problem of the column noise came from the motor compartment. It was the plastic cover that surrounds the chassis (above fender) when you open the hood. It was near to the head lights. This took me the longest time
to discover.
For 2) For the rattle I would rather look to the handbrake mechanism. Additionally there are at the drivers side on the left end in the dashboard (you can access it from the pedals) the hoses I mentioned. They are not in the motor compartment. If these two don't help let me know and describe the noise. Is it metallic, or plastic??

Thanks for the ideas, would love to solve this before I go on a road trip this thurs. So I removed the entire plastic cover over the fender in the engine compartment, and noise is still there. Next I tried to jam some paper towels into the parking brake mechanism to dampen any vibrations but it didn't help either. I've attached a video with the noise, it happens right around 1000 RPM. Let me know if you have any other ideas as to where to look... I'll keep at it and update with anything I find/rule out.

Thanks again for the help!

Re: vibration /rattle noise 2014 gc laredo

First of all, I can imagine how desperate you are, to have it solved before the trip. It is really terrible to have a noise that does not belong to the regular behavior. When I checked the video I could hardly hear the noise, as to identify it. Please give me more details: Is it more like a bird twitter or more a rattling and/or vibrating?
