WJ (2001 Jeep GCL) P0453

Hi, all!

I recently purchased a used Jeep from a used car dealership and thus far the vehicle itself has been great. However, I noticed that the oil had not been changed recently, so I brought it in on day four of ownership.

Immediately, the check engine light went on. The OBD2 code is P0453 - Evaporative Emissions Pressure High. My scant research indicated that it might be the gas cap, so I checked that - it was clicked three times and seems to have a good seal.

Should I go and by an aftermarket cap, a dealer cap, or just bring it in for a smoke test, et al.?

Thanks!

Welcome to the garage.
This code is not due to the pressure in the tank, it is due to the pressure switch itself. The fuel cap is not the problem in this case. You will have to check the pressure switch and the wiring to it.

Thank you!

As I am wary of DIY electrical work, I have an appointment to bring it in Thursday, will let you know how it all turned out.
