Re: WK 5.7 Transmission Grind/Clunk

They were trying to convince me that the noise was normal and it was the rear differential engaging.....I said "NO, WHAT DO YOU NOT GET?!?!?!" I brought it in because it started making that noise. It never made that noise before. Plus she's the front desk lady and she thinks Bushings will fix this? She has no idea.

Re: WK 5.7 Transmission Grind/Clunk

No she isn't, but her daughter is

They said the noise is coming from the T-Case. They said it's nothing major, but I'm keeping the paperwork. So after 5 days they say it's the T-Case. I'm picking up tomorrow morning.

Re: WK 5.7 Transmission Grind/Clunk

Yup, they got 3 Transmission Specialists and they said they had to call an Engineer to some and inspect my Jeep....I laughed. I picked the Jeep up this morning right after class.

My dads friend owns am Aamco so he's going to inspect it! I bet it's the T-Case Chain or something!

Re: WK 5.7 Transmission Grind/Clunk

Drivetrain noises can be tough to pin down. Yes you can pinpoint sound but you dont know if the sound you are hearing is because the noise is traveling up a driveshaft and your just hearing it in the transfercase because thats where the motion dead ends. I have had drivetrain clunks coming from the transmission that by all means looked like the transfercase.

Also, its likely they didnt have an engineer come out, what they likely did was submit a "star case" where they send all their information to a tech help center basically. Unless the field rep was in the area or there were other cars they needed him for its highly unlikely chrysler is flying anyone in for a drivetrain noise after 1 attempted repair and 1 week.

Also be happy they "trans techs" didnt suggest anything. They are not married to your vehicle so any suggestion they make while possibly more educated than the tech actually working on it is nothing more than a quick suggestion they are not getting paid for and dont have to deal with it not fixing the vehicle. In my experience I prefer to figure something out myself, I will talk through some things, but ultimately I dont like "master techs" telling me what to throw at the car because I know that is all their suggestion is.

I understand. It feels like it takes a second to engage into gear. The noise is coming from the Transfer-Case though. Tuesday night the Master Tech (Who said he's been working on cars for 30 years) said that he knew what the problem was and that it was coming from the Rear-Differential. He said he would call us first thing in the morning. I got no call at all until I called them myself. Wednesday went by and that's when they got three transmission specialists to look at it. I never got a all on Wednesday either so I had to call myself. Then she called me up and I spoke to her and she kept saying that there were multiple problems and that the Front Differential Mount Bushings were one of the problems. So I told her to call my dad ASAP.

She didn't even call so I texted my dad to call them and what they told him is that it's coming from the T-Case, but if they replace it they wouldn't know if it would stop the clunking noise. If someone drives my Jeep you would definitely know that something is wrong and that it's not normal. When I try to Parallel Park it just clunks and clunks and clunks (EVerytime I put it into DRIVE).

So I will be dropping it off at my dads friends shop to see what's up. I will definitely update everyone on this.
