Wk2 not upshifting on hill

Just got a 2012 WK2 and I'm still getting used to the shifting. Today I went down a moderate steep hill and it did not upshift the whole way. I wasn't going very fast to start out. Maybe 10-15 mph. Is this an automatic thing to hold the engine/transmission back to save on the brakes? I can't find a definite answer on Google for the 2012.

Were you accelerating with the throttle but it still wouldn't up shift? Or coasting?

I was coasting. I didn't touch the brake or gas until the bottom of the hill where it flattened out. It seemed fine after I pulled out from the stop sign. First time it has done this. I don't have hill descent control because I don't have 4 low. It's the single speed transfer case which is why I'm worried something is wrong.

Re: Wk2 not upshifting on hill

I think it's normal. I noticed when I let off the throttle to coast up to RR crossings that the transmission doesn't go into a freewheeling type neutral like my older trucks. It slows down faster. I think it has something to do with the lock up torque converter operation. Once you get used to it will be second nature, it's just different.
I do have the two speed transfer case but it sounds the same as what you are experiencing.

I'm glad to hear this. I thought I would be heading to the dealer. I traded my '04 Grand Cherokee for the '12 and everything is so different that it makes you think something isn't working right. Thank you for your replies.
