Yet another blend door question.

So Ive got an 01 WJ Laredo, and I have the basic HVAC setup, no auto climate, no heated seats. I was reading up on some forums about the dreaded blend door issue and some forums talked about WJs with auto climate were the only ones affected by this problem, while others said all WJs had to deal with the issue no matter your HVAC setup. The reason I am asking is alot of guys that I have talked to with WJ have had a problem with the blend doors getting stuck every once in awhile or just breaking completely. Sice I heard about this issue I have been keeping my thermostat knob on either full A/C in the summer or full heat in the winter, due to the fact that I really dont want to end up tearing my dash apart to fix the issue if it ever breaks. I just want to settle the question once and for all, what WJs are effected by this issue?

Re: Yet another blend door question.

Normally only the WJs with automatic zone control suffer from the dreaded blend door problems. This is mostly because that system drives the doors full closed after switching the ignition in off, putting a lot of strain on the doors/hinges. This will result in breaking hinges after a while.
The manual system only has one blend door and that door will not move when switching ignition in off. This system is far less susceptible of blend door problems.
But by putting the temperature regulator knob to full cold or full hot, you will also drive the blend door to its full stop positions, also putting more stress to the doors, with bigger changes of a failing door hinge.
