1993 grand cherokie larado trans

I have a on going problem with my Trans and this problem is why I havens put my plow on it as of yet but the problem is when it is cold out side and only when its cold it dose not like to shift in the 2nd gear if I shut the electronic over drive off it shifts fine no problems but if I leave it on it seams like it is slipping in second gear and will not shift unless I bring the rpm's up to 3000

no this is what I was told I don't know if it is true or not

I was told that the over drive is going out by one person then I was told that it is trying to tork out this is due to the shift kit and tow package that I have in it then another told me that the clutches are going none of this makes any since to me due to it shift just fine if the over drive is shut off and it only dose this when its cold out and when the jeep warms up there is no problems at all please I am open to all suggestions here thank you to all that tell we what they think

Governor Pressure solenoid valve. Make sure you replace it. I had that problem with my 94' Jeep GC. That's your problem.

Well if you don't replace I'm not sure how long it will last. Maybe a couple more months. I think the part is like $40. Search it on google. You should take it to a transmission specialist.

Re: 1993 grand cherokie larado trans

there is one more thisng that i forgot to tell you guys and that is i never have any problems with it shifting no matter how cold it is when i am towing somthing and this is no matter how big or small the load that is being towed is

i just got back from the jeep dealer and they told me that it has somthing to do with the torck converter lock out switch and the computer is trying to make the trans torcl out but it can if there is no load on it ?? i dont realy beleave tham i have never heard of somthing like that and then they told me that it will cost 3800.00 to have it fixed i dont think so lol i think its time to put the trands and the 5.9 that i have in it i just need to find another car to drive whill i am doing this

Re: 1993 grand cherokie larado trans

i found this on another jeep sight but as you read it youll see that it talks about the 3.7 and the 5.9 not the 4.0 that i have so i am rreal un shure about this

The automatic transmission includes an electronically
controlled Overdrive (5th gear for 3.7L engine, 4th and
5th gears for 4.7L and 5.7L engines). The transmission
will automatically shift from direct gear to Overdrive if
the following conditions are present:
the transmission selector is in D (Drive);
the engine coolant
has reached normal operating temperature;
vehicle speed is above approximately 30 mph (48
km/h);
the "TOW/HAUL" button has not been activated;
transmission has reached normal operating temperature.
NOTE: If the vehicle is started in extremely cold temperatures,
the transmission may not shift into Overdrive
and will automatically select the most desirable gear for
operation at this temperature. Normal operation will
resume when the transmission fluid temperature has
risen to a suitable level. Refer also to the Note under
torque converter clutch, later in this section.
During cold temperature operation you may notice delayed
upshifts depending on engine and transmission
temperature. This feature improves the warm up time of
the engine and transmission.
If the transmission temperature gets extremely hot, the
transmission will automatically select the most desirable
gear for operation at this temperature. If the transmission
temperature becomes hot enough, the "TRANSMISSION
OVER TEMP" message may display and the transmission
may downshift out of Overdrive until the transmission
cools down. After cool down, the transmission will
resume normal operation.
