1994 Laredo Transmisson Problems

Ok so, from doing some research, I think I have the AT-A518 transmission. I came to that conclusion because of the year and that I have the 5.2l V8.

The problem is, it won't actually shift out of first as a rule. If it does make it to second by some divine miracle, that's as far as it goes. So I'm going down the road doing 30.....at 3000rpm. Not good.

What i have done so far: ok so i just bought this vehicle, and i have only had it a couple days. I added some Seafoam TransTune and a quart of transmission fluid. So far, no difference.

My question to you fine folks: What should i try in order of escalation? If all else fails will rebuilding the transmission suffice? Or should I be looking at a new transmission? My family has some skilled mechanics who could rebuild a trans pretty easily, but I would like some outside opinions.

Welcome to the garage.
Not familiar with this transmission, but first you need to know if it has an hydraulically controlled governor, or electronically. Maybe that by scanning you can get a fault code?

Update:
After driving for a while with my magic potion in the transmission, it is shifting beautifully! I'm not sure what was wrong and it will probably still need a rebuild in the future, but for now it is operating very well. I have more problems and improvements I'm going to fix/make so I will be around.
