1998 jeep grand cherokee wont go back into 2wd

I have a 1998 jeep grand cherokee laredo with the select trac option. Two days ago I was looking everything over and wanted to make sure everything worked. well I put it in 4 all time and when I tried to put it back into 2wd It seemed like it went into gear but no lights lit up on the display. I gave it a couple more trys and nothing. the display lights up when you put it in any other gear. and no just last night I started it and the selector was in the 2wd position and it shows that im in part time 4 wheel. and for the life of me I cant get it back into 2wd. any help would be appreciated

Try reversing for a little ways. You can also switch from 4hi to 2wd while in forward motion, helps the chain jump back to where it should be. HTH

I had that problem with my ZJ. Put it in 4Hi, find a nice straight road and put it in drive but don't touch the gas just coast. After moving 10 feet switch to 2WD and coast going straight about 400-500 feet at idle (say under 15 mph). Then just tap the gas a few times quickly then coast (going like 10 mph). If that does work put it in park, then back in reverse & go back 100-200 feet at idle. Tapping the gas lightly every so often.

Usually one of those would work for me to get it back into 2WD.
