'98 Liftgate Help

Hello All,
I am new to the Forum and new to Jeep ownership.

I was hoping someone could help me open my liftgate manually. I've tried to remove screws from the inside access to trigger latch but have been unsuccessful in getting liftgate cover off.

The liftgate handle on the exterior seems to be out of adjustment and will not open.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: '98 Liftgate Help

Mine is hard to open and seems like it wont open, but if you push in on the hatch down close to the handle and at the same time lift the handle it works. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the input - I was able to get it open and repair the problem.

Re: '98 Liftgate Help

After fixing this the 3rd time, I finally cut out the whole carpeted area of the interior panel, put a piano hinge along the top and velcro "latches" at the bottom for easy access the next time I had to deal with it. Paid off about a dozen more times.
