Chrysler 8.25 would handle that, 8.8 as well. You could search NAXJA & see if any one is selling HP30/8.8,8.25 combo thats already somewhat built. D44A if you truss & want "bolt on". Beat accordingly.

Re: Differential Question

My sons 98 has a 4.0L and a dana 44A that has a cracked tube close to the center section. Since it's just a DD I wanted to try and drop in a Dana 35; my understanding is that it should basically be a drop in? Does anyone know what would not work going from a dana 44A to a 35? universal yoke the same, brakes?

One other question, are long arms in the budget for you? Even just the fronts? Would help with the driveability ALOT. 35's on a D35 & you'll be asking for a broken axle shaft/bent axle tube. Brakes should be the same, just grab the driveshaft from the D44A vehicle if you go that route.

Just pull driveshaft from donor vehicle. HTH.
