my new 5.9

Hi everyone ! I joined to find some info,on my new 5.9..I already have a 97 ,4.0 limited. one question is---in the literature,some mention a heavy,r trans output,and in another,it seems to refer to a stroger t case output.I ask because,i have a perfect 249 that came out of my 97,when I did the 249-242 swap,and my new 5.9 has the dreaded vc failure. will all 96-98 t cases interchange /?

i am 99% sure it will work ,its been awhile since ive done reading on that but 99%,,,when i first got mine i read everything i could but have forgot alot of it ,,i hope u own stock in a gas company

Yep pretty sure 96-98 242's are a direct swap. You will need the longer arm for the shifter.

What you may be referring to is that all 5.9's came with the 46RE transmission, whereas the 5.2's and 4.0's came with either the 42RE or 44RE. I have never seen anything but a plain jane 249 in a Niner stock, tho. Swap 'em, you'll be fine!
