Re: need a helping hand

Welcome to the garage. Do you know which transmission it has? Doesn´t it drive at all, or just won´t upshift?
Any fault code stored in PCM?

Re: need a helping hand

What engine does it have? (i presume that the 4.2 in your signature is not right?)
It will not shift into drive or reverse. But you can move the shift lever to those positions?

Re: need a helping hand

yes, the shifter, goes up and Down, it wont apply in drive or reverse, a bro, told me, could be a súper dirty oil filter,it has a 4.2 engine, and the shifter is really soft.

Re: need a helping hand

A 98 grand cherokee with 4.2L? I know the 4.0L, 5.2L or 5.9L. Or is it not the original engine?
I would first have a look if the shifter cable is attached to the transmission lever and if nothing is wrong with the cable. It should not feel soft.

Re: need a helping hand

Check the fluid level. With the engine running. If it's low it can't engage.

I think 4.2l was an AMC motor from the scout or wagoneer.
