It's virtually impossible to find a space-saver tire that will mount in the back of my '1997 ZJ 4.0L 6-Cylinder 4x4 with the Off-road package and steel skid plates. I'm thinking of adding a roof rack and a full size Goodrich tire to match what I currently have on the rest of the car. These are the wider off-road tires that are barely two years old. The last time I replaced the Space saver tire was in 2005 and I had to find a used one while I was in Chicago that was still in good shape for emergency only. Now it's going to be near impossible to find unless one of you has a source who still makes a space saving time for a 1997 or 1998 ZJ that will hold pressure without blowing. So I have 2 Questions;
1) Does anyone make a new space-saver tire that I can replace the old one with?
2) if I match the full-size Goodrich tires that I currently have on my ZJ where can I get a roof rack and how is the spare mounted so that it can't be removed or stolen?
I don't want to mount one on the rear door because Zi have the lift glass storage access in the rear lift up door. I will probably only use the full size spare for road trips a few time a year between the Palms Springs California area to Phoenix Arizona which is a straight 5 hour road trip. There are very few towns between here and there and having a full size spare ready to mount in case of a flat is comforting. We make the trip to get my wife to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix as she has a former or Muscular Dystrophy that few doctors know how to treat here. Putting in on a roof rack also gives me more space in back for luggage.
Thank uou all in advance. This picture may be able to be enlarged to show what I currently have on my Jeep since I dont recall off the top of my head the size.
