Hey guys I own a 98 grand cherokee, 4.0L v6 engine and just the other day i was driving and the car had literally shut off when i went to accelerate. It cranks but wont turn over. The lights stayed on and I don't think its the battery or alternator. I'm praying it's not the PCM but my father thinks it might be the fuel pump in the tank. Whenever the car was on there was a high pitch noise going on underneath towards the tank. There is some electrical issues with the dashboard and sunroof but i thinks its more with the wiring.

PLEASE HELP not sure what to do and was looking for somewhere to start
Heres the video to see (I restate the problems in video):

Welcome to the garage.
I´m not sure if the fuel level indicator signal comes from the PCM (as is on the WJ), but if it does, then it looks as an internally shorted crank sensor. Disconnect this sensor and see if the fuel level indication comes back. If so, then change the sensor. Also the battery voltage indicator signal comes from the PCM and will stay at 0 when the crank sensor is shorted.
Regarding the fuel pump, you should be able to hear it work for a few seconds when you put the ignition switch to run. You could also check if there is fuel available at the fuel rail by pressing the schräder valve and see if fuel under pressure comes out.

Don't fret about a bad PCM. I was gifted a '93 ZJ because of a hard starting problem. I tracked the problem to a bad PCM. I pulled the board and had an electronic shop work replace the capacitors, $40.00 parts and labor. They did not do any diagnostic work just what I told them I wanted done.

I own a 99 4.0 GC in addition to my 06 Hemi and had an issue similar a couple of years ago. Was driving and it just died, all it would do was crank over. Plugged in my code scanner and it turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor. It is located on the back side of the engine, driver side. It actually mounts in the bell housing. Not saying this is your issue, just a possibility to look into.
