Re: unlock a few horses

I got my K&N given to me so I didn't really care if I got any perf out of it. I can say the only improvement I did notice right away was that throttle response was alot better and crisper. The only thing I have done to my 5.9 besides the K&N is a Flowmaster, so I didn't expect a whole lot out of the intake anyway.

Sorry if I sounded accusatory in my last post, it wasn't meant to sound that way at all. It wasn't meant to try and say I think you made a bad investment or that CAI's are a good/bad investment unequivocally.

What I was trying to do is shed some light on the subject of CAI's since there is so much confusion surrounding them. Knowledge is power. I also wanted to try and reaffirm to people that engines, as with most things on a vehicle, are a system. People tend to want to develop hard and fast rules to simplify complicated things. Rules like, "A CAI is worth 15 horsepower" or "This mod is worthless without this mod".

There are so many factors at play that the waters get muddy real fast. Identical Jeeps with identical engines may see completely different results from the same mod. I mean, for God's sake, where you live can affect how your engine performs.

Like I said, the point I was trying to make is that making blanket statements about a mod being worth X number of hp or that a mod is totally worthless is ignorant. And again, I'm not saying that's what you were doing, I was just putting it here in this thread so that anyone who reads it can be better educated about the subject.

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers...

No, no, no feathers ruffled at all! I agree with alot you have said. There are pros and cons to EVERY mod. Knowledge is everything when it comes to anything, not just automobiles! I was just trying to add my .2 for others to read.
