what year, motor,

the crank sensor was the only thing to ever stop my ZJ, it ran just perfect the previous night.. then next morning juss cranks and cranks.. check the codes with the key trick and go from there.. thats the first thing i did with mine and it told me what was wrong with it(code 12 no crank reference signal IIRC)

I had to replace the cap and rotor on my 94 a few months back.

Thought I had got water in it, but it was a dead cap and rotor.

OK, I have checked a few things last night. There is spark but no fuel pressure in the rail. It seems like the Fuel pump is not working at all. I then swapped the relays, still with no joy - Need to find my multi-meter to check if there is power on the relay.. for my gut tells me differntly, if I unplug the A/C relay I can feel and hear the relay klick-click but when removing and refitting the fuel pump relay... nothing.
I poured a bit of fuel into the throttle, starts immediatly and dies again - must be fuel related.
Is the Fuel pump inside the tank? How do I get to the Fuel pump?

well in the wranglers the pump is in the tank, so if you have the same I6 it probably is to.
a good way to check is have a buddy lay under the jeep by the tank, turn the jeep to the 'on' position but do not start it, you should hear the pump prime. if it wont prime then its the pump.

Another way to test it is to hit the bottom of the tank where the pump is located (lowest dip in the tank) on almost every vehicle if you hit that spot with a rubber mallet once or twice the vehicle will sometimes crank right up. (very very temp fix)

Pump is inside the tank. Sits in the top.
You have to drop the tank to get it out.

Saturday I had to sort this out, or at least get to the problem. First thing I`ve checked the power on the plug going to the pump - No power:eek::eek: I even had the wife switch the ignition off & on... still no power, I then bridged power to the plug... and the pump works:):) - I then check and found its not Fuel Pump relay but a other repaly activating the Fuel pump, all a sudden everything was working - then all a sudden it stopped again and no power to the pump - if I cross the relay - and it worked 100% - could it be the immobilizer?

Its sounds like the problem i had with mine. Its most likely your crank sensor. check your fuel pressure before anything it should be around 44 psi i believe. I have a 96 5.2l and mine just died one day and replaced a bunch of parts and spent a lot of money and just turned out to be the crank. it runs like 80.00 at the dealer.
