Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

If I recall correctly, the spring rates of the OME springs are like 180#/inch for the V8 and like 165#/inch for the L6 springs. I could be wrong on that. They recommend the V8 springs with an L6 if you plan on installing a winch/bumper or if you want to have a "heavier-duty" front suspension.

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

So if I put my front coils in the rear on my ZJ and add a 3" lift coil to the front I will get 3" of lift?! Do I need to upgrade the shocks?

Yes, that is what they are saying.

A shock upgrade is recommended. You don't have to spend a lot of money to do this. Kevin's Offroad makes what they call a BFYB (Bang For Your Buck) lift kit that is quite reasonable. If you get the spacer version, I think it is only like $400 INCLUDING Bilstein 5100 shocks. The lift I am buying from him is his "BFYB w/ new springs" kit that includes new springs for all 4 corners and Bilstein 5100's for $620. Upgrade to MX-6 shocks for $700.

I imagine the spacer kit would also be relatively cheap to ship to South Africa or whatever. Also, Kevin is a really stand-up guy and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he told you every spec imaginable about his springs if you called him.

If you are including the Pro Comp MX-6 adjustables, then the edge definitely goes to Pro Comp. Excluding the MX-6's, they are a toss up as long as you are comparing apples to apples. If you try and compare, say, Pro Comp's hydro shock to Skyjacker's nitro shock, then that isn't apples to apples.

In that respect, it wouldn't totally surprise me if they were made by the same company and the sticker on the outside of the tube is the only difference.

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

I think the guy was saying both nitro, skyjacker was 61 bucks and pro comp was 71. this shop I'm talking bout is saying skyjacker 2nd only to bilstien ??. and that pro comp only makes same product but better, and here I was thinking isnt that the idea, lol. cuz i want to put a 3" inch lift my 96 zj. but don't want the High dollar kit just for the name. and someone told me to buy stuff separtely so you can go cheaper coil ect. but go with the better/best shock. pro comp.so i thought. or just go kit. I'm not going to rock crawl. just mudding, and I plan on alot of it.lol.
thanx

My recommendation would be to go with the Kevin's Offroad lift kit. He kinda pieces his kits together to begin with. He offers two kits - spacers or new springs. If you go with the new springs kit, he offers several different shock options. One of the shock options are the Pro-Comp MX-6 shocks. With new springs, a 3" ZJ lift is $700.

I don't know how much the spacer kit costs.
