ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

Hi guys,
Hope you can help, I`m looking for some ideas to do a lift on my ZJ. Unfortunatly we dont have aftermarket suspension kits available in South Africa for the ZJ. However I can get longer springs made up if I know what the spring`s specification. Any ideas, or can somebody help me with spring specs?

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

you cant get someone to send you one from the states?

The Clayton's long arm setup is by far and away the highest quality and best ride/performance.

I have found an importer, the problem is its very expensive to import and our rand is almost R8 per $ - it then comes to almost half the vehicle`s cost

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

Go here http://www.mallcrawlin.com and do some research on "Front to Rear swap". They're not too newbie friendly on Mallcrawlin, so use the search function, then ask questions.

If you move your front springs to the rear, you'll get about 3" of lift in the rear, then you only need to worry about buying a new set of front springs. Someone on Mallcrawlin probably knows the spring rates (and might have posted the info), so again, do a search before you ask.

You don't say how much lift you want, but another solution is to just add 2" poly spacers above each spring - these are cheap in the US and relatively light weight, so might be a viable solution for you.

For ride quality, you don't want to go above 3" of lift on a ZJ without going long arms.

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

I have 4 two inch spacers for a zj laying around in my garage somewhere. 40 bucks plus shipping and they are yours if I can find them.

If you do the front to rear swap and just buy new front springs I can measure mine on the front for you. I have the O. M. E. on the front of my ZJ.

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

In that picture the Jeep has had the factory front springs swapped to the rear, and old man emu 3 inch lift springs installed in the front. The front sway bars are disconnected too.

You mentioned you could have some springs made, if you want the measurements of the 3 inch front old man emu's I have, I can measure them and send you the specs, then you just have to have 2 made for the front, and you can use the factory front springs in the rear to get your 3 inches in the rear.

Disconnecting the front sway bars gives it all kinds of flex. Here is mine with the front sways disconnected still at factory height. Not lifted yet.

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

That will be great if you could meassure the front springs - think I would need the spring wire diam, number of coils and spring length. I will have a chat to the guys that manufacture the springs on Monday to see what specs they require. Tell me, if I do the 3" lift, do I need to modify/lengthen my control arms?

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

It is not necessary, but it will flex better and be more stable if you do get longer control arms.

Yea, let me know what specs you need and I will measure mine for you. It may take me a few days to get the info back on here to you though. My ZJ is at the body shop right now getting a few things welded up.

Re: ZJ Suspension Lift ideas??

I`ve done some internet searching and found some guys did the spring swap and fitted the ZJ V8 front spring into the 4.0 and also got a very nice lift. Unfortunately we did not get the ZJ with the V8 motor but will it be possible to use front springs from a WJ V8 into the ZJ?
