2.7 accelerating smoke ??

Hi Guy's,

Now generally since I bought my jeep I just kinda cruise around in it. Just lately Ive had to hit the accelerator hard to overtake etc and noticed a puff of black smoke out the exhaust.
Is this normal for a deisel of this generation, or does something need looking at, Injector cleaner perhaps ?
Another question, every owners book for every car Ive ever owned says dont put additives in the fuel. Many owners say a shot of Injector cleaner has helped the car emmisions etc, including my wifes 2 deisels !

Thanks

Re: 2.7 accelerating smoke ??

If it is black smoke it is generally just unburnt fuel.

I'd take a look at the air filter and change it out if it is dirty, that is the general cause for it. Could also try BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power derv in the tank, which has injector cleaners in it.

Air filter only has 5K on it, but I'll check it over.
Maybe try that expensive fuel next fill up !

Thanks

Re: 2.7 accelerating smoke ??

Hi usually when you hit the accelerator to overtake, it's common to have black smoke coming out of the exhaust ..
I have the 3.0 CRD also from Mercedes and I have the same , it's unburned fuel

Probably you have a small air leak in the fresh air system.. I've seen it on some 2.7..

Don't worry if it's when it's only during sudden accelerations I've already seen brand new cars with a puff of black smoke behind them when they overtake

I've heard that once when you use these kind of cleaners ,after that you need to use them quite often .. but I never used them
