Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Diesel
At least you are getting the warning. What is happening in the colder climates is that none of these engines are working hard enough to even regen. The trucks are worse then the jeeps. What the are recommending to me is that once a month when I am on the highway for a least a half hour is to drop a couple gears and get the rpm around 3500. If the filters delta p (pressure differential) is to high (plugged) then you can create a regen to clean it. Should only take about 20 minutes. The problem so far is that if the conditions aren't met for a regen the filter will plug before you get a notification. Check engine light goes on and it will go into limp mode. A bit frustrating to say the least. The 8 speed under normal driving conditions for me won't work the engine hard enough so I will have to create the proper conditions to keep the filter clean. Wish there was a delta p sensor so I know when to blow the carbon out, lol. Last time I did it the economy wasn't even that bad at 3500 rpm so it's just a matter of remembering. The mechanic said he is actually cleaning out the guts of the filter on vehicles for off warranty trucks and they aren't having any issues. Would be illegal in a few areas do to emissions I imagine.
Sounds like the other manufactures are also having or have had these issues.
Love my Jeep though.
