When driving with offroad 1 & 2
On small bumps off road banging noises and bottoming out
jeep head office Australia said " this is normal" you must be joking?
Any else had this problem?
Not me, and I've had two MY14s now. You'll definitely hear a clunk in OR2 over small to medium bumps if you are travelling "a bit quick"... a definition which has a degree of personal opinion in it.
If it happens in OR1 I think you need to find a dealer who's a bit more open to investigating it... as that's definitely not normal.
If you can duplicate the fault near the dealerships, use a car off the lot to demonstrate it's not normal. If your car does it and another does not then it's game over for their ill informed letter.
Someone might be able to point you towards a dealer with some sack. I would definitely reply to the letter and say that based on your research, no one gets banging / clunking noises in OR1.
The dealership mechanic and I drove in a bluestone lane way at 10 klm per hour and he said that should not bottom out like that but was over ruled by head office , will take your advice and see if they will do a demo at the same location ,if not will write to consumer affairs re false advertising!
The biggest fault to the car is adding air for increased height. This inturn makes it ride rougher. Im led to believe its the top shocker rubbers continuing to compress and the shaft tops out on the cap.
Contact the manufacturer! This is a terrible design. They are fully aware of the problem which they do not disclose at the point of sale...they will just say it is normal, but if enough people complain, hopefully they will design a fix...The impact hammer effect of this actually caused the front suspension cross arm bolts to come loose and put the front end out of alignment...had one come all the way out it may have been deadly...
It will definitely have premature negative mechanical and electrical impacts on the vehicle...

I hear it occasionally in OR1 and more often in OR2, but only when going a little faster over quick bumps or ruts. I don't like it but I was told it is normal and nothing they could do. My front right suspension was barely tight from the factory (they had to replace the CV Joints at the factory) and the dealer said someone forgot to tighten them all. I watched him check every bolt on the front right suspension to make sure it was right. It is actually comforting to see other people have the same "clunk." Anyone hear of reported failures yet?
With 2015 Overland from Canada, I am also banging in OR1. Not a pleasant noise. I did not contact dealership about it ... always thought it was "normal" due to design.
Should I chat about it with dealership?
I reported this issue at the dealer and they said the same thing.... "It is normal" and I told them that it was only with my front suspension and more on the front right. I did ask if it was because of the the Diesel engine's weight just to see if they will agree to anything and they said yes but now I don't know what to believe now. Want to go off-road on my Summit Diesel but I am afraid ill break something and it won't be covered with the warranty.
And another only in OR2 and was on a gravel road on Mt Buffalo from Dingo Dell to the Horn for those that know it. Everytime we hit a bump there was a almighty bang on the RHS, so I lowered to OR1 no more bang.
Car is going in for a service next week and will be checked as well as the oil weep from the sump and the sludge in my coolant bottle and my leaking EGR, just a coincidence I saw your post !!!
Only get that bang in OR2 when going over serious rocky terrain, normal or OR1 travel no sound even speed bumps at speed that's in normal but not sport mode mud flaps hit??
Unfortunately it is normal as many have written of this including magazine reviews especially when on lift 2 and is a rather disconcerning sound. I tried mine out over the weekend and if it were not for prior reading I would have taken it back to the dealer. Its the sound air suspension and shock combination will make when lifted.
