3.0L Oil filter brand

Hey,

So I've been buying the benz oil filter from the dealer.. it was recently increased to 60 dollars (CND). I looked on J4J and they have them for about 30 but the shipping is ridiculus.. one of the options would have cost me 100 dollars . I know that FRAM makes a filter, but am a little hesitant on using it. Has anyone used FRAM's or any other makers filters? Do you think it will make much of a difference.

I was thinking if i do use the FRAM ones I will switch out the filters TWICE every one oil change.

Re: 3.0L Oil filter brand

some issues have been encountered with aftermarket filters on the 3.0L, just want to make you aware before you you save $30 on a filter that causes you many more $$$ in repairs.

Re: 3.0L Oil filter brand

Hi - is there a thread on the methodology for changing the oil and filter? Also is the fuel filter a do-it-yourself project? Dealer said something like $300 cdn then tried to convince me i should do it every 20k!

Re: 3.0L Oil filter brand

So I went to CanadianTire and picked up a fram oil and air filter.

Let me give some advice... DON'T use these.

First off the air filter was the wrong size and I had to return it (their book was wrong)
Secondly the fram filter looked cheap and the o-rings felt to be a different durometer than the ones I normaly put it. The Fram filter cost me 26 bucks

Went over to Napa and picked up a NAPA GOLD/WIX filter for 16 bucks.

This filter looks much better all around.

My recomendation for canadian users is the NAPA GOLD oil filter. From what I have read this is what most ppl use already.

Re: 3.0L Oil filter brand

Just confirmed that the FRAM filters are garbage.

Took it out and found cracks on the top and bottom. So who knows how long I have been cycling dirty oil through my engine.

First you post you buy a NAPA gold / WIX wich is cheaper (but looks better) then the FRAM & then 2 months later you post it's crap?

FRAM is not making specially crapy filters for 1 type of engine & for others good stuff. Did you install it right?

Re: 3.0L Oil filter brand

Did I install it right

Ive done all the oil changes on my vehicle myself and never had an issue, used the same process. So NO i did not install it incorrectly. My thought is that the filter is slightly too tall and gets crushed down and cracks.

And yes, I went to Canadian tire, bought a FRAM filter and put it in. Just for fun since I was buying oil stuff I went across town and bought a NAPA GOLD filter for next time. Unfortenately I did not listen to my gut when I decided to keep the FRAM filter in anyway. This was the result. Never buying FRAM for any vechicle ever again.

You can use a FRAM filter all you like

I have pics but i am at work and photobucket and related sites are blocked so I cannot upload.
