3ltr CRD oil type

Hi All
What type of oil are you guys using?

I had my 3ltr CRD serviced (100k service) by a local jeep dealer (well 2hrs drive) and i noticed on the invoice that they used magnatec professional 10w-30.

The manual from what i understand says 5w-30 acea A3/B4/C3 MB229.31 spec.

After the service my jeep feels a bit sluggish (maybe all in my head) would using the incorrect oil grade do this?

Re: 3ltr CRD oil type

i not 100% sure but lots of diesel guys buy their oil at the mercedes dealer.

i DO KNOW whatever oil you use must have the MB229.51 oil spec on the bottle.

I found this document on the oil your dealer used. I think after reading it, I would head back to that dealer. It says
"Castrol Magnatec Professional 10W-30 is NOT recommended for two-stroke engines or for
engines that recommend ACEA, A2, A3, B2, B3 or B4 classifications oils."
It worries me just a little! I know that the Australian market is different and the coreect oil may be harder to find.

Re: 3ltr CRD oil type

I went to a local Mercedes dealer today, mostly to ask a question about the blow back and the need for a Racor additional filtration system. They said they have not seen any issues with that engine in their vehicles. They recommended an oil change every 15000 kms and a fuel filter change every 30,000 kms. I am behind on that, but I change oil in shorter intervals. Of course they refused to do oil changes on it but they did point me in the direction of the oil they recommend, although the parts guy said it was made specifically for Benz motors, I would not be able to locate it in retail stores. He said it was 5W40 Mobil 1 ESP, good for gas and diesel. I looked on the Mobil1 web site when I got home and it comes in 5W30 ESP http://www.mobiloil.com/usa-english/....aspx?option=2

Now, I all I hafta do is find out what the dealer here and in Avondale AZ have been putting in my motor. One says 5W30 and one says 5W40. Google MB 229.31 and MB 229.51 for approved oils for our engines. (MB = Mercedes Benz)
