Biodesiel

I know the crd calls for the low sulfur stuff, but I just found out I have access to bio diesel. Reading up on the lubrication properties, this seems like the best thing I could put in my motor and allow for longer injector life. Would there be any harm in running bio diesel in my crd?

Re: Biodesiel

It depends on the % of the bio-blend. Don't use 100% bio. The CRD is only approved to 10% bio blend, and that is still pretty dry. I add 8oz. of Diesel Kleen to each fill-up. Hope this helps.

Helped a ton, thank you much. Sucks that we can't use the higher percentage stuff.

Re: Biodesiel

Your service manual should give you guidance for the allowable biodiesel percentage. If you exceed the recommended limit and have a fuel related problem at some point you may be denied warranty coverage.

Re: Biodesiel

2% biodiesel adds lubricity to the cylinder wall and can aid in cleaning the fuel system (needs to be ASTM spec not just bathtub brew). Here in Texas we are now getting (up to) 5% bio at the pump. It's not like the terrible effects of Ethanol (yeah on your engine just like on your brain - what a country!) BD really is beneficial when properly blended.

I'm adding about 40 oz of pure BD to the pump fuel, along with some Power Service, in my 3L CRD and it runs great. Same thing for my Jetta TDI.

However, if you want to run B100, then you have to cut out the DPF, and that is illegal in all of the places I've been to.

Re: Biodesiel

Be careful and respect the percentage of BD allwed by the manufacturer. the problem is not the lubrication but the chemical composition (ester) wich attacks some of the sealings within the HP pumps and injectors. that caused some problems in Germany, so most gas stations do not sell pure BD any more but diesel fuel blended at 5% BD.

Good luck

Achim
