CRD Engine Life - Who's Racking up the Distance?

I'm a new owner and have an '07 with 111,000 kms, so relatively fresh I would think.

Curious who's rig is going and going and going and going....and still strong.

I had 160,000 kilometers on my '08 before I traded for a '14 EcoDiesel.

Re: CRD Engine Life - Who's Racking up the Distance?

Just passed 130,000 and all good.
Also just came back from 1000k round trip camping vacation towing a 5500 lb trailer (loaded) and was impressed.
Bilstein 5100's will be in next week and I'm sure the next 130,000 will be smoother than the first.

Re: CRD Engine Life - Who's Racking up the Distance?

just recently (july 2015) purchased a 2003 jeep grand cherokee wj 2.7 diesel crd here in england. 143000 miles, i've added 1000 miles since, running lovely now i fully serviced the engine. previous owner had all five injectors refurbished at a cost of 900 uk pounds. do my own maintenance to save money, full service cost about 70 ish including oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, wynns engine flush plus diesel fuel injector cleaner. also replaced 2 o ring seals in the rocker cover vapour return. slight leak from that, sorted now.

That sounds like you're now ready to add to the mileage of your new purchase. Congratulations, and safe travels. Who manufactures the 2.7 CRD? I wonder how different it is from the 3.0 CRD?

All the best!

Re: CRD Engine Life - Who's Racking up the Distance?

Hi yeti, yes ready to add some miles to the jeep, hoping to get away camping September. just today fitted front and back parking sensors. great sensors of off ebay. 30.00, not bad but fell a couple of feet short on two from the front. Bit of a pain cutting excess wire from back sensors then splicing them onto the front cables. all sorted now and working perfectly. the 2.7 diesel engine is Mercedes as is the gearbox, (five speed auto) getting about 27 mpg urban and 35 ish mpg on a run out of town, (wales) The 3.0 up untill about 2010 is also Mercedes, but is a v6, the 2.7 is a straight five, 20 valve, 161 bhp 295ft/lb of torque. i think the 3.0 v6 is 215 bhp not sure on the torque figure. Mercedes five speed auto box fitted to the 3.0. Not sure but think around 2012 when the newer shape came out the engine was switched to one built by fiat, still a 3.0 v6 but more power (245bhp) and increased torque plus lower emissions. lots of jobs to do over the next couple of months, Just fully serviced engine, next to do is gearbox oil, filter change plus fit new gasket.

Hi Scouse,

I'm enjoying the benz engine in the 3.0 so I'm sure the 2.7 is just as nice. The 3.0 has a stock ft/lb of around 375 which is great. I have also installed a GDE Tune which bumps the numbers up a bit and the ft/lbs are somewhere over 400 now (cannot recall exact numbers). It is a noticeable performance improvement (less turbo lag) and overall just much more life and a little better fuel economy too. The tune also takes care of the chronic and inevitable swirl motor failure that plagues these otherwise excellent engines. It is fantastic for towing my camper and still returns very good fuel economy even while tugging around quite a bit of weight.

Installed Bilstein 5100's now, and they are excellent for improving the ride quality.

Re: CRD Engine Life - Who's Racking up the Distance?

Those v6 diesels sound awesome, my brother is looking to get a wk next year. v6 3.0 mercedes diesel like yours. love the low down torque in my jeep, 1400 rpm=30mph, on our heavily speed camera/policed roads it comes in handy. just a lovely vehicle to drive, dont feel the need to speed. doing the gearbox oil, filter, gasket next week, also just bought a rear brake rebuild kit, 50.00 both sides, includes new piston, seal and dust cover, gonna give my wheels a rub down and spray them same colour silver. getting a bit rough so tidy them up. just working through the car sorting stuff out as i go. those billstiens sound great, gonna fit a set of them myself when the time comes.
