My Father in law is giving us a 2007 CRD 2.8L I4 Liberty in 13 months (hes buying out my mother in laws Ram 1500 when her lease is up and giving us the jeep).

I was doing som research and found on Wikipedia that they banned the sale of this jeep in some states due to new diesel regulations. WTF?

"Only available in 2005 and 2006 for the Sport and Limited models, the 2.8L VM Motori CRD has since been discontinued due to stricter 2007 United States diesel emission standards. Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, and California had already banned sale of the vehicle due to their rigid state emissions regulations. "

The next thing. The jeep has about 60k miles. Apparently it had a CEL on from the day it was driven home but he never though to do anything about it. Since then its had the EGR replaced, then the "mixer"? then after it was out of warranty it had the turbo replaced (but because of recurring issues it was covered under warranty) then just recently it had the egr replaced again.

If nothing else goes wrong with this thing before we get it which i am sure it will, what do i need to be worried about once we own it? We are selling my wifes 02 dodge stratus once we get it and this needs to be a reliable DD for her (commuting 30 miles a day). Although we wont have a loan payment on this, is it still going to cost us a ton of money to keep it running?

What do i need to do to keep this a good vehicle before she ends up trading it in because of lack of reliability?

Im also planning on ditching the terrible GY Wrangler ST tires and getting some nice 225/75/16 AT tries for it. this is for my wife so its not going to get any mods or bigger tires, not even the 235/70/17.

Either Cooper Discoverer AT3, Discoverer ATP or the Hancook Dynapro ATM. Probably getting the AT3, I love the looks and reviews and im hoping to get them for my WK this spring.

Read up on the CRD on the "Liberty CRD: Love that Torque" forum.

This group has all the info and knowledge that you need.
You need it 'cause the US Dealers are hopeless with the diesel for the most part. If you can evaluate the CRD's sometimes quirky behavior, and avoid the dealer's shop, it will serve you well.

I had mine for 6 years, a great little tractor, never needed a mechanical repair. By the way, if it is in the US, it will be an '05 or '06.
