Freight from US - AUS

Hi All,
I want to get some larger parts for the Jeep from the US, has any one bought any parts and shipped them over? if so who do you use? For a $200USD part I was quoted $1495 USD to freight it to me from UPS?? There must be someone that can ship larger items over?

cheers

Just for Jeeps seems to be one of the most common ones Aus people use.

Re: Freight from US - AUS

Hi Snuke,
I have found what I want to order,
Jeep Grand Cherokee Roof Rack:*2011+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Roof Rack

the cost to ship that was insane, apart from Ebay I never shipped from the us and must be a better way?

P.S thanks for that site, I found a electronic brake controller on there that I can hopefully purchase if it suits my JCG Overland? I have sent them a email asking for more info etc.

Cheers Again

Shell...
Out of curiosity I looked at RRO site an selected the rack you're interested in. I was surprised at the UPS ground shipping charge from their facility (Heber City which is southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah) to the San Francisco/Bay Area, approx 784 miles / 1261km ---- $93.00!!!

Unfortunately, their site doesn't give package dimensions nor the weight.
USPS (United States Postal Service) or regular truck freight would be slower and less expensive but strangely they don't offer those services.

Too bad ARB hasn't come out with a rack for the WK2's.
What about Thule?

Re: Freight from US - AUS

Hi XJ97SPORT,

I contacted them to ask the dimesions and weights, here was their reply, I have tried UPS and it will cost me like $1500 USD to ship to me here in Australia, they do have a Aussie dealer but the prices on the rock slders alone were like $1500 ex freight. I can get the hole pachage delivered for like $2200 from the USA.

I really want these items but I think due to freight costs I will be going with out. As I am also having troubles trying to get new tires to replace the standard ones before the vehicle gets here. Once again freight costs to much. $350 a tire in freight. WTF! lol

Rock sliders rails are 90 lbs and measure 75 x 18 x 10
Adventure rack 40 lbs, 50x 43x 6

Roof rails 25 lbs, 30x7x7

all the accessories 30 lbs 49x15x16

Cheers

Re: Freight from US - AUS

Shell - you may want to have a look at the US freight forwarders. Not sure if it will help but worth a try.

I have in the past used (and not for items the size you are looking at):

- Hop Shop and Go (hopshopgo.com)

- My US (myus.com)

There is also -

- Ship It to (shipitto.com)

- ReShip (reship.com)

They supply you with a US address to have your item shipped to and then they package it and send it on to Australia.

Now, I have never used it for heavy items like auto parts so I'm not sure what the freight will come out like. I have only them for clothes/toys/Lego/shoes etc but it could be worth a look at.

There are others but the one's I've listed are the most common ones used.

Brenden,

Since I had to stop by my local Post Office (USPS) today I asked about shipping packages to the Land Of Oz. According to the clerk the maximum length is 42" (107cm), but it is also based on adding together the total inches of the length, girth (girth = width, and height). She then said that the only box they could "mail" was the 30"x7"x7" one and the cost from California to Sydney as $146US.

After I got home I looked at the USPS site. From the USPS site:
Maximum Size
The maximum size for most mailpieces is 108 inches in combined length and girth. Standard Post pieces may measure up to 130 inches in combined length and girth (but will be charged oversized prices).
Regardless of the size of the mailpiece, the maximum mailable weight of any mailpiece is 70 pounds. Some classes of mail have lower weight limits.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

USPS site info: QSG 401 Commercial Parcels - Physical Standards for Commercial Parcel
I couldn't find anything about 42" being the maximum package length.

So the "Rock sliders rails are 90 lbs and measure 75 x 18 x 10" are over weight. Hmmmm, maybe split this into two 45 lbs boxes?

I think I'll go to a different Post Office and ask for clarification as to size limits and cost and see what they say.

Keep ya posted.
