Spider-One is a jewel in the rough
Re: Grand Cherokee CRD performance thread

Most guys with a Racor unit have used the 3500. The 4500 just seems to be overkill really. I know Racor specs their units according to HP, but this is for non-turbo vehicle. Hell they've recommended the 3500 for some HD trucks so that's good enough for me.

Re: Grand Cherokee CRD performance thread

K&N drop in filter, & chip,

In Australia we have a snokel manufacture called "air raid" have one my 00 XJ petrol, they are redesign the whole air box & tube system, seem the factory air system is a very bad design, they are talking of an increase in performance of about 5-10kw's or more, has now been delayed due to the system being so good they are doing a world wide pat, on it.
Quote from Aus jeep forum

Moulds for airbox and cold air tube from throttle body to airbox are done however the numbers he got out of the CFD program (.93-.97) seemed to good to be true so he gave the data to this lecturer and he came back with (you got the numbers right I suggest you patent the design) so he got the airbox independently tested on a WRX and Skyline think he said 5 kw and 11kw increase.

Re: Grand Cherokee CRD performance thread

i have the INmotion tune....
Long story short... I dynoed before/after the tune.
Other mods include gutted turbo resonator (kidney bean), cone airfilter, and deleted the muffler..
i still have the dpf...
My GC CRD is a 2wd...

before dyno was 211whp and 353wtrq Also ran a 15.86 @ LAs vegas Motor Speedway. this was stock tuning with the above mentioned mods...

After tuning i dyno'd 267whp and 425 ftlbs of wtrq....here's the dyno graph
This truck was re ran at 2 different tracks with the tune and recorded a best of 14.88@ 90mph....

I also took note of HAND CALCULATED Fuel economy and have noticed a solid 2-3 mpg gain... i went from consistant 22 mpg to 24-25 mpg... this is in Mixed city/hwy driving, commuting 45 miles one way to work....
on hwy trips i have managed the high fuel economy of 28.8 and have maintained 25mpg driving from Vegas to Dallas towing a motorcycle and trailer with additional weight in the Jeep..

I also have a racor oil separator, but i doubt it adds performance...

I've had the tune now for 23k + miles and have had no issues ...
IMO it is the best bang for your buck in regards to mpg, hp and $$$ spent...

Its a kidney bean shaped box on the front of the engine that is part of the pressure side of the intake... it has baffles in it to reduce turbo noise. it is possible to take it out and pull it apart.. inside the baffles are removable... so we say we "gutt it" and then reinstall it...

Truth be told no one has any solid proof of this modd making any additional power or reducing lag. its all tested by butt....

didn't stop me from gutting mine though..

Well Judging by all of this data it is 100% clear to me now that i purchased a WK witht he wrong engine in it. I really wanted a CRD but could not justify the $ to buy an 08+ CRD, since they were not available in prior years.

Re: Grand Cherokee CRD performance thread

bringing this thread back!

first off i want to ask about the kidney shaped reso on the front of the engine
is there a video or how to of how to gut it?
i looked at my engine and couldnt see anything lol alltho im no where near a mechanic :P

also i might want to add that i saw a more recent thread on JF of a guy that claimed to get 2-3 more MPG but im not 100%, as stated above still isnt going to stop me if i can figure out how to do it :P

next i was wondering about an exhaust
instead of buying the MBRP, which seems to be the only after market exhaust, has anyone just cut out the reso and muffler and replaced with straight pipe?

thanks!
-Mike

Re: Grand Cherokee CRD performance thread

If you have an 08 like I do, we don't have the kidney thing at all. I drove myself nuts trying to find it.

Re: Grand Cherokee CRD performance thread

I think it maybe but I'm not sure. I hope someone else can chime in and say yes or no. There prices have come down for the inmotion tune. Someone on here got it and said they paid over a grand for it.
