Hydro planing skid?

I have an Overland with the 20" Kumho factory tyres. First time experience on wet wet roads. When tyres hit puddles, car slips quite a bit as compared to my previous cars which would just splash thru effortlessly. Very surprised for Jeep. I had to hold steering wheel very firm to correct for slips even in the smallest of puddles. Speed was 80km/h . Anyone experienced this ? Is it tyres or car problem? Losing confidence.
