K&N Panel Filter on CRD

I have been running my 2007 Grand Cherokee CRD with a K&N Panel Filter for approx 4 weeks. And have noticed the fuel consumption has suffered noticeably.General running about down from 25-22, Motorway 65mph ish down from 32-28 mpg on dash readout .
No difference in induction noise so no reason to give it the Loud pedal!
Just a little suprised at the results I am getting.
Had a similar problem on old TD XJ Jeep with K&N and was told it was due to mass airflow meter increasing fuel because of increased airflow does this sound correct?

No the MAF is only used for DPF & EGR control, unplug it, your check engine light will light but no limp mode

Re: K&N Panel Filter on CRD

Make sure that your air intake hose clamps are tight after swapping filters as you will throw off your MAF sensor at the air box.

Re: K&N Panel Filter on CRD

checked everything all seams OK, Just thought I would mention a UK gallon is more than a US gallon, 8 pints compared to 6 pints.

Re: K&N Panel Filter on CRD

I know in north america, the diesel fuel has more kerosene added in the winter months to reduce the gelling (jelling?) in cold temperatures, this reduces the efficiency of the fuel by about 10%. Not sure if they do that in the UK or not.

as I recall a UK (imperial) gallon is 4.54 litres, while a US gallon is 3.78, so about a 20% difference there.

I average 28 miles per US gallon highway and 19 miles per US gallon city driving. I also have the K&N panel filter.

Re: K&N Panel Filter on CRD

K&N filters are great for sports use but I'm not a fan of them for general use. Firstly, they need to be maintained or soon become clogged and secondly, any filter that lets more air through lets more other stuff through as well. Better to just replace the standard filter more often.
