To all uk owners of a 2005-2006 3.0 v6 CRD. How often do you change your engine oil?
In the owners manual and a previous post it says that you should change your engine oil every 6000 miles, or 6 months which ever comes first.
Do you owners actually change the engine oil this often? I am a little shocked reading this.
The onboard computer reads my next service is in about 10-11000 miles. I would of thought that would of been the time to change the engine oil if it needed to be.
Not only that, my car is left parked during the week days, and only really used during the weekends and even then i dont drive it often.
I have always changed mine @ 12500 miles, and I thought that is what the handbook recommends
My WK was serviced before I picked it up (by a Mercs/Jeep dealer in Swindon UK) and the service light was set for 12500 miles
I notice you do not use the Jeep every day, do you do a lot of miles when you do use it?
Low mileage cars with infrequent use actually need oil changes more than high mileage ones, I do about 4000 miles a month and cluld not afford a car with 6000 mile changes!!
This is my second Jeep and the last one (same model) was done at 12500 miles for the 2 x years I owned it
With stop start and the low mileage, I would change the oil at 6000 miles or 12 months, the engine will not ever get hot and I consider low use more "wearing" than high mileage. I would also take the motor to the redline once hot every time I used it (I do) and make sure you let the turbo cool/stop spinning (1 minute wait) before you switch the ignition off
With that low mileage, I would have brought a Hemi!!
Just wondering on something with this motor. Back when I was a teenager I worked at a local ford dealership and when we changed the oil on diesel trucks we had to prime the oil filters once we put the new ones on, then we would fill up the oil. Do we have to prime the filter on these trucks as well or is it just fill up and start the engine. Thanks for any help you guys can give me on this.
according tothe dealer.. and other documentation.... it is to ensure the crankcase has enough oil in it when it is started.... and, you must wait a min of 15 mins to check the oil on the dipstick after the oil is at operating temp. Of ocurse, it goes without saying the motor has to be shut off when you do that.
I too am becomng confused regarding the oil change interval for my beloved CRD. I have the manual, which states the oil change interval is 12,500 miles (20,000 kms). another part in the manual says 10,000 kms (6,000 miles). What gives? which is it. for the most part I have been doing 6000 miles... but clarification sure would be great. (As an aside, the last oil change the dealer did, a gumby put 5000 km interval on the window sticker.)
Pretty sure it's 10,000km for schedule B and 20,000km for A. I stick with 10,000km but since a lot of dealerships are clueless you need to make sure they use the proper oil. Pretty sure most use Mobil1 5W-40 or 5W-30 ESP. Requires oil with Mercedes 229.51 certification.
