Oil starts gushing out of your dipstick line. Not fun.

Re: Post your Provent/Racor setups

hi guys
i think i have a similar problem with my wh turbo. at 200 000 kms its started choking all of a sudden and eventually stopped boosting altogether.
took it to a turbo specialist who refurbed the turbo and it worked fine for a month, then problem started again.
eventually i got a new turbo and am waiting for the mech to install tomorrow.
mech insisted on new turbo since he could not find anything wrong with sensors or throttle control body and eventually blamed the turbo actuator.
from my autopsy i have to say when i looked at the big orange gasket/plastic ring..it was torn. i replaced that at the last service. but the smaller one , also orange that goes into the intake just before the turbo is also torn to bits and i can't seem to replace it since jeep doesn't have a part number for it. they claim its a part of the entire air filter intake and is not sold separately.
my fear is the new turbo will also give in/clog up if i don't get the correct black gaskets/o-rings or whatever they called.
please advise.

Re: Post your Provent/Racor setups

Hi ! I,m a new member and a new jeep cherokee diesel owner!!! I use to drive a 2006 Ram Mega cab with the HEMI. Couldnt get a loan to put gas in it , Sold it!!! So i bought this nice 2008 Cherokee Limited diesel FULLY loaded, awsome ride and it can tow the same as my Ram 7,500 pounds. Getting to my point now, ive done some reading on Air-Oil filters after i saw some wet spot around my intercooler. My question is; can we connect the oil tube frome the PCV Valve( dont know the diesel term) at the buttom of the air filter hosing?? With some kind of oil catching bottle between so the fumes can be filtered before entering the intake? I dont care about changing my air filter more often if i can save some big $$$$ keeping my engine Clean!!!

sorry about my poor english, im a Frenchman lost in BC

Thanks!!!

Re: Post your Provent/Racor setups

Furiousbudy, a provent/racor setup is a "catch can" and is exactly what we are talking about. The Elephant hose mod is also an option.

Ashraf, I would say its not your turbo but your swirl motor that has gone, due to the orange seal leaking dirty crankcase oil onto it. This is very common item to go. A catch can or elephant hose mod will also eliminate the need for the orange seal and you wont have to worry about this.

Re: Post your Provent/Racor setups

After changing the orange seal and going to 5W40, had some time this week to clean the intake. Lots of oil into the resonator, o-rings on the high pressure side where leaking too. Next thing to do is cleaning the cooler and EGR valve (not too much effort) and doing a proprer catch can setup.

What do you think of this kind of catch can. Could be a good way of doing EHM?

Directly connecting the PCV to the catch can. The only downside is I could get blow by smells coming from the filter into the cabin air filter if placed behind the water tank.

Edit: I don't like the elephant hose mod, because no negative crankcase pressure possible.

Re: Post your Provent/Racor setups

I bought a Billet Technology catch can from a member on another site. I really wanted the BT brand and I wanted a clear container so I could check it quickly without removing.

Here is the top view:

Here is the side view:

Here is the braided hose kit I bought:

Here is the side view with the braided hose kit installed, notice the long exit hose, wonder why it's so long?

Notice the small hose with the plug? that is where the stock hose would normally connect back to the intake, I cut the hose and plugged it because rather than connect back to the intake, I connected the hose to the airbox in front of the air filter.

Here is the system installed first without the engine cover:

That's a bit of money to spend on a glass jar! Bet I could make one out of a mason jar and get the same results, plus empty it less!

The pictures below show my Provent catch can fitted to my 2012 WK2 CRD and the amount if oil it stopped from re-entering the manifold after just 5000km (3100 miles).

Just further to my last post, just drained the Provent after another 12,000km or so. The pic below shows another 40ml that has been stopped from re-entering the inlet manifold.

Re: Post your Provent/Racor setups

Clarkey you don't happen to have a list of the bits and pieces you used to install this?

Btw any issues from the dealer during services?
