Just had 20000km service done on my 2012 crd laredo, love!!!!!!! It,has been absolutely perfect, never thought a diesel could be this good, dealer gave me a 300 sedan 8 speed 3.6 petrol for the day and i swear my crd. 5 speed completely outperforms it, i wonder how the 8 speed crd performs

Really, really well. Picked mine up yesterday at the dealer and drove it about 250 miles yesterday. Just... awesome.

Re: Potential diesel buyers beware this is a post from a Jeep grand Cherokee lover

Hi,

I am new to this website.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.0 2011 with VM Motori Engine. I Bought it on the US but with Eurospecs. I brought the Car to Central America without knowing about the Ulra Low Sulfure Diesel (they dont carry it)
After 45 days the DPF filter had problems and I took it to the dealer. They could not help me out. After searching the web and friends I decided to try and take out the filter...The car works but it is in Limb Mode...I have a "exhaust service required" on the screen.
Does anyone know how can I modify the ECU so that it does not detect the the DFP is hallowed?

Thank You

Hi all,
New to the site, first post.
I bought a 2007 CRD last May (2013) with 200,000kms in Canadian winters; it wasnít abused, but it wasnít babied either. At the time it had the ďorange sealĒ full of oil and everything. The motor runs like a charm (knock on wood!) and I havenít had any problems with the CRD so far. Only issues have been with general craftsmanship (lights, sun roof leaking, rust, etc).
Overall, very happy with the CRD!
Cheers,
PD
PS: frejamemi, I donít know about the VM Motori, but there are a few tunes for the WK CRD that allow for a DPF-delete option. The one Iím more aware of is GDE Eco Tune; maybe drop them a line?

I almost feel bad saying this but I did own a brand-new 2007 Jeep grand Cherokee diesel limited. I run the Freightliner dealerships in Arizona and can honestly say I am a die hard diesel engine fan. Never in my life have I owned a car that had so many problems that people who knew me made fun of the fact that I owned a car that broke down so much. They joked and said if I ever moved I better be close to jeep dealership because my Jeep was always always always in the shop. I certainly hope jeep has done a better job with this engine then the one I had in my 2007. All I can say is I am a 100% loyal jeep fan and I would never dare try another diesel engine in this product. That being said I have owned at least five grand Cherokees after the 2007 diesel engine version. Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone has questions I'd be more than happy to speak to someone. My cell phone number is 623–217–4202. After owning the diesel engine jeep for 30 days it went to a shop in Utah and they kept it for over 30 days because no one was qualified to work on them and no one stocked the appropriate parts to fix it. The best advice I could ever give someone is don't buy a diesel engine from jeep. Once again please feel free to call me direct and I could tell you the horror stories of owning such a product.

Sincerely

a huge Jeep grand Cherokee fan James
Thanks for wasting my time. The number you provided is probably a sex line.

Our 06 2.8l diesel liberty has been a nightmare to own for my father i. Law (original owner new) since weve had it a year its been oook but too quirky on a reg basis for my taste. I always wanted a 3.0 v6 diesel wk but just owning this liberty has been enough of a deterrent for me. Its really sad because i really want an 08/09 3.0 diesel wk.

Good to read since I am just taking delivery of a 2008 GC Overland diesel and the Chrysler dealer is repairing the oil leak from the elephant's trunk with what I hope is a fix from Chrysler. Should the new part be orange or black?

Re: Potential diesel buyers beware this is a post from a Jeep grand Cherokee lover

I have a 2007 grand cherokee diesel with 160,000 km and have been happy, some of the "wear "items replaced:

- all glow plugs and brakes done at 150,000 km. original rotors!
-glow plug module was faulty and replaced at 130,000 km.
-upgraded turbo hose from orange to black to reduce chance of leakage at 80,000 km
- diesel tune added at 120,000 km to add power and milage, very happy with this modification to my computer!
- took apart shift console to fix a faulty sensor at 145,000 km, took me 5 hours and some electric cleaner to fix problem.

This vehicle has never left me stranded and has plenty off power for towing. I really have nothing negative to say however I have avoided the big mercedes repair up to now! I do all my oil changes and mechanic friends help my with any diagnotics from check engine lights. I think at this point this story will continue to evolve, I plan to keep it for as long as my last 4.0 litre cherokee: 400,000 km or 12 years!

One issue though is that chrysler wants nothing to do with these mercedes engines. I have found that if the "big" repair is required, mercedes will work on these engines as they have mechanics who work on them frequently. This is my planned option but I do not really want it to happen.

Re: Potential diesel buyers beware this is a post from a Jeep grand Cherokee lover

I have a 2012 WK2 CRD and have done 112,000 kilometres since Picking it up 28 months ago, I've had a slight oil leak on the sump repaired under warranty at around 60-70,000klm mark.
I know of another that has had the same issue fixed under warranty so that seems to be the only issue I know of with the VM 3 litre.
I've never had an issue with the DPF I've only ever used Caltex Vortex Premium Diesel, not sure if that's helped or just that I do a fair amount of highway kilometres.
I have well over 2200 hours on this engine and love it!
Awesome torque leaving the lights

Hi all,

We are looking at a 2014 JGC diesel and I'm interested in how it compares with the V6 petrol. After reading this I am still leaning towards the diesel, had a V6 petrol out for a test drive, not impressed. Short hops most of the time, a couple of 300 km round trips to the beach and towing a 1500kg camper trailer. Will be doing some beach driving here in Australia (queensland). Somebody put me out of my misery and convince me diesel is the way to go!

Gerry,
I know have 121,000 klms on my CRD and love it.
Way better than the V6 Pentastar petrol.
Better towing 3500kg
Awesome fuel economy.
Drive it you will love it
