Rear end 'groan'

Hi folks,

My 2008 3.0 JGC makes a 'groaning noise' when first started and pulling away. On one occasion, afer starting, I moved in reverse and the noise was LOUD but reduced to the lower groaning noise when I moved forward then went away after a few cars lengths.

The electronic display flashes VERY BRIEFLY a note on 'rear transmission overheat' when first turning the ignition on - this warning doesn't even stay visible long enough to read it properly. It took a few on/off events to actually read what it was saying.

About three months ago the rear diff pinion seal was replaced and the diff needed an almost FULL top up of oil. Could the failed diff seal have caused any damage to the diff bearings? If so, anyone got costs on having these replaced and/or advice on how this might be done on a DIY basis????

Or any other suggestions on what the 'groaning' might be?

ta
