Re: Some thoughts on owning an 08 Jeep GC diesel...

With my 08 CRD I just finished a trip with a high point of 21mpg. Usually average about 17 though. Mind you this is with a 2" OME lift and relatively aggressive 265/70's which are about 2" larger than stock tires.

Re: Some thoughts on owning an 08 Jeep GC diesel...

I get around 21-22 MPG with about 1/2 of my miles at 55 MPH on the freeway and 1/2 on surface streets. The tank has only been close to empty a few time and I think the trip odometer showed around 420 miles.

Re: Some thoughts on owning an 08 Jeep GC diesel...

My MPG is the subject of another thread

The OBD shows 28.7 US mpg
Real calculations with GPS corrected distance show 27.5 mpg (UK not US)

This is running General Grabber AT2's 255/65 R17H tyres in place of the Goodyear Wrangler HPAW which came as standard

My driving is 90% motorway (freeway) at between 70 and 80 mph and I average 200 miles every day

The UK service book suggests service every 12500 miles

I love it, the torque makes it a pleasure to drive, the engine is quiet and refined and the LTD is a good interior spec

I love mine.... On road trips to the States, not pulling the trailer, I get in excess of 500 miles per tank

Re: Some thoughts on owning an 08 Jeep GC diesel...

Milky... I hope im not bursting your bubble on this and you may already know but for 2010 the WK is only offered with the 3.7 or 5.7 hemi and its now the only v8 offered in the laredo so its not as rare as we may think. But i agree for a 2008 it would have been rare to have the hemi in a laredo had you bought it that way.

Nice write up. I wish that i had the extra $$ to buy the CRD Wk i wanted to buy and not the 4.7 V8.

Town driving which is typically about 15mph to 25 gives me about 23mpg (uk), its not great, better than the HEMIs and SRT, but compared to other diesel SUV`s its poor.

On the highway, i get about 27, doing around 70 - 80mph.

Diesel is also expensive in the UK typically about 1.16p a litre.

But the engine is refind, and quick, leaves most cars standing, and surprises others with its pace.

It does sound a bit loud outside of the car when idle.

But for anyone doing a lot of miles and wanting a Jeep GC, i would recommend the diesel over any other petrol model in the UK.

Re: Some thoughts on owning an 08 Jeep GC diesel...

Hey everyone,

I just bought my 3.0 CRD exactly one week ago, and here are my impressions:

1) The diesel is definitely a different feel from gas engines, but the torque is awesome. It takes off when you need it, and it feels really nimble.

2) The QT2 system is great.... and just in rain it feel like you are grabbing the road. I'll update everyone on snow performance next weekend on a my snowboard trip...

3) My mileage is ok (around 21mpg). But I also am running 265 Blizzaks... which are the completely wrong tires for Los Angeles in 70 degree weather. I think they are messing up my mileage by at least 2-3 mpg.

4) Because diesel isn't as big here in CA... or in the US for that matter, I am buy an extended warranty from Jeep. With dealerships not knowing what they are doing with diesels here... I don't want to risk anything for these few years. The warranty will buy me over 3 yrs and about 40k miles. That is worth the peace of mind for now.

I'll update you guys soon. LOVE the uniqueness of having a diesel....and the better mileage than rocking a guzzling V8.

CRD FOR LIFE

Re: Some thoughts on owning an 08 Jeep GC diesel...

I have 265/65/17 tires on my Wk and they are tearing down my MPGs by about 2 to 5 mpgs. I got them free and i needed tires bad but i am saving up for some stock 245/65s now.
