Who would like to see the Jeep GC Diesel return?

Well, me for one......the 3.0L diesel GC was a good seller in Canada and I would buy another one if it was offered again.....good fuel economy and good range for a mid-size SUV...

I test drove a Mercedes ML 350 with the same engine (except the cleaner Bluetec version) that I had in the 08 GC.....great car....

May buy one over the 2011 GC.....based on fuel economy and better range vs the new V6 GC and the 7 speed tranny vs the 5 sp in the new GC ....

If your top concern is mileage you ought not be driving a Jeep. Probably shouldn't be considering any of the other posers know as suvs either.

If that is the case, you could be eliminating a lot of people....not many GC owners that buy a GC for mainly offroad use....especially Overland buyers....

and it is not a secret that the entire auto industry is turning production towards more fuel efficient vehicles because the majority of customers are demanding better mileage.....if manufacturers want to stay in business....they will have to give customers what they want or lose their business to the competition.....

Was talking with a sales rep I know from a local stealership... and I was told that GC would have had a Diesel for 2011, but the Cummins didn't pass CA emissions? I'm just sayin'.

Re: Who would like to see the Jeep GC Diesel return?

I haven't purchased a Jeep in the last 15 yrs intended for serious off road use. Three of the 4 vehicles currently sitting in my drive have 300hp+ V8s and none were purchased with the idea that they would get even decent gas mileage. A Jeep has the aerodynamics of a brick on wheels. Through in the true four wheel drive systems and they might as well be cinder blocks. If you are looking for a fast AWD vehicle and great mileage, you are most likely to be disappointed with a Jeep.

The majority of customers may be "demanding" better mileage but there are still those who want a true 4WD with both high horsepower and torque.

Re: Who would like to see the Jeep GC Diesel return?

Well the diesel offers more torque than the 5.7 mate
The diesel is far superior for some folks uses, especially those who do a lot of towing or long distance touring, especially given the miniscule size of the WK's gas tank and subsequent appalling range between fills in the petrol versions.
Here is Oz the diesel far outsells the other versions combined.

Re: Who would like to see the Jeep GC Diesel return?

The difference in torque between the two pales compared to the difference in hp. Yes I know the difference and yes I understand that torque gets you off the line however hp gets you to the finish line. And it takes very little to get the 5.7 to put out more torque than the CRD. Not going to speak for other nations regardless of the continent. Here in the USA the diesel that dimestore chrylser put in the grand was a colossal flop. There are far better choices out there if you #1 concern is mileage. That has never been and never will be the strength of the Jeep lineup. Folks who buy a Jeep and complain about the mileage or range on a tank of gas have no one to blame but themselves for failing to research the purchase.

Re: Who would like to see the Jeep GC Diesel return?

lol, is there where I mention that if your first priority was "getting to the finish line" anyone who purchased a 2300kg tub of lard Jeep should have their head read?
I love my Hemi, and consciously chose it over a diesel, but in many circumstances it is pure fact that the diesel is superior, although there is no argument that the petrol V8's are "sportier" than their diesel brethen.
Oh, and FYI, the diesel can be very easily "chipped" to produce far more torque than even a modded petrol V8. That is a fact.
Personally though, I prefer the more instant throttle response of the Hemi, but regardless I think my next purchase will be a diesel, as even a lowly V6TD Toureg can take my Hemi when chipped, all the while using around half the fuel

Re: Who would like to see the Jeep GC Diesel return?

Not to worry, I own a vehicle that will beat even the SRT8 to the finish line if so inclined.

But that is not really my style as I simply prefer to have both torque and horsepower if/when I want either. If I wanted that and good mileage, I'd be looking at a different brand. I've owned Jeeps for over 30yrs and intend to own them for another 25 or so Lord willing. The brand is a true USA icon and not something to be castrated by those who simply want the image when they ought to be driving a prius.

Last thing I want is a piece of crap turbo diesel (that's exactly what the CRD was) in any of my Jeeps. Put a decent, dependable one in a Jeep, one that is worthy of wearing the Jeep name and I might consider. Highly unlikely that Fiat will do a better job than DC did if you ask me.

Re: Who would like to see the Jeep GC Diesel return?

Hey the guy asked if anyone was interested in seeing the diesel return and I gave my honest opinion which is hell no. If he, you or anyone else don't wish to hear opinions that you may disagree with, feel free to add me to your ignore list.
