'13 Camaro 2SS Conv. Rejuv

Hey guys, wanted to throw this thread up as my mom recently traded in her Saturn Sky Redline in for a new 2SS camaro convertible, and I came home while she was gone at work and did a clean up for her before she got home, she had no idea I was coming home. Wanted to put it up cause alot of people are picking up their new jeep and this is similar to what alot of owners are going to encounter, and though I could answer questions people have with my background as a detailer at our local Ferrari dealership. Thanks for looking everyone!

Inspection:

Water spots were a problem on this car as I thought from the beginning


Corrected


Passenger Quarter was bad

Wheels need attention, will come later




Hood had some etching and rids as well




Driver door


Unfinished sanding marks on driver door

Driver quarter, bad pic, but damage is seen

Turned out great and proper how they should come from the factory!

I've seen cases where the paint-correction is just masking the problem until the next time the vehicle is washed. In your work, does the paint-correction hold up for a while?

This reason right here is why it is so important to pick the proper detailer for your vehicle. This treatment of vehicles is rampant right now with people who offer "buffing", and hack away at your car with a rotary buffer and then throw a heavy glaze on after. But it also goes the other way, I could detail a car to concours level perfection and if you do not use a proper wash technique you are just going to keep installing swirls yourself.





This is what we call holograms and are common for inexperience details, I run across these all the times after I perform a strip wash which pulls off any glazes they put to cover up their poor work.

Proper detail will lead to mirror like finish like on my rig

wow...that looks like mostly carwash damage....people should stay 1000 miles away from any carwash.....LOL

couldnt have said it better myself scott, run and run fast, they are destroyers of finishes. Dealer hand washed the camaro during its life there, had been washed 2 times and this is what is looked like, dont let dealers touch your cars people, most don't know anything about proper detailing.

On top of that, the other day driving past the beemer dealer, they had a crew power washing and wiping down the cars...not washing, just blowing off the dust and wiping down...BMW Jerez black and their Carbon black scratches just looking at it, wouldn't want to buy that car. Dealer never touches my cars, no matter the color. And yes, a lot of people just use some glaze to fill in, proper scratch/swirl removal will last a long time, as MSRT8 said, only if you use proper washing/drying techniques, and the proper washing and drying materials...soap, grit guards, mitts, towels etc, or you'll be back at square one. Nice work SRT. That truck looks like someone went to work with a direct drive and wool pad. Most don't know the difference between polish, wax, glaze, sealer, compounds and the difference between correcting, polishing, buffing, etc are

Wow! Really nice work on mom's car & your Jeep looks amazing. Would you mind sharing a few of your techniques? I would like to know how you get the water spots out of the paint & how to get a shine like that on my Jeep. Thanks

Thats how most dealers do it, quick and fast. Thats why I enjoyed my time with Ferrari as detailing properly takes time and thats how we did it there. Seems to you a bit about proper detailing as well, glad to see and that will really make your ride perfect. And yes I believe with that truck it was a noob with a rotary polisher foam pad/heavy compound, what most dealerships and even more scary, some detail shops will do.

Thank you sir! Time and patience are your first two tools. Secondly I would recommend looking at all of the Adams Polishes products, I was the Michigan rep for them at Ferrari and they have the most user friendly and effective products on the market IMO, and I have used A LOT of stuff, overseas products/OTC/beta testing for different companies. So when I saw go with Adams, I mean do it haha . As I see you have a silver jeep you are starting off good as well because silver is able to "hide" more, and your work will seem to last longer with proper technique than a color like black. First off some of these finishes such as my jeep would not be achieved by the beginner detailer as I do use a rotary polisher for some work and can/and will damage paint if not used properly. I say this because I learned the hard way and my fault was on a panel on a Ferrari, and I had a quick learning curve cause of that haha.

So here is what I would recommend for your vehicle:

Adam's Essential Detail Kit

The essentials kit is simply the bet combo for overall vehicle care and I use all of these products as well. Upgrade to the Americana paste wax as well, my go to wax and that again is me having used many other waxes that cost over $1k a pot. This kit gives you everything for:

-Proper wash
-Clay bar
-Hand polish
-Trim/tire dressing
-Last step product (wax)

Or if you wanted to step it up even more go with this machine polishing kit:

Porter Cable 7424XP | Machine Polishing Kit

This is for more corrections and on a car that has a good amount of swirls and scratches.

-User friendly machine and products that you will not damage your vehicle with unless you turn it over and drop it on your paint haha

Best of all they offer a DVD that goes step by step through detailing processes and you can follow along and do it exactly right, just as if you had your own teacher there with you.


I recommend the Essentials kit for your silver jeep as I figure that being newer it will not need much more than a revive polish kit and is very affordable and a lower first investment for a proper shine.

Yes, pretty anal about my vehicles. I do some detailing for some friends and aquaintences, and it looks like they washed it with Scotchbrite all winter(auto car wash), and in spring say, make mine look like yours...20hrs later(black escalade) i was done. Nobody flinches though when I give them a price, my insurance guy just says call me when you're done and I'll bring you another. After 3 cars or so he hands me a blank check. It takes time to do it right, some paints are finnicky, some easy, hard/soft, etc. My Ram's paint doesn't like anything(BFWD,Griots Garage, Esoteric Sig Wax, etc) but Dodo Juice, but I've done some cars that seem to like cheaper wax and don't need anything fancy...a lot of trial and error too. Get a body panel from the junkyard and practice on that.
