Not all backing plates are the same - and while I won't bash another company, I will say that LC pads are priced at that level for a reason. In this automotive market you seriously get what you pay for. Being an entry level foam, they aren't even in the pre-polymer family - and are considered the entry level foam. Pre-polymer is an additive added to control the heat of the foam allowing polish to do it's job. By dissipating heat you allow the polish to "finish" properly.

Because they are a lower quality they break down and are notorious for the foam actually soaking and tearing. That means more trips to the store instead of trips to detail.

All of our pads are pre-polymer and each foam cell meets our standards. They were cut specifically to not mar, skip, or hop when under pressure and last several details versus last several body panels.

Take a look at our Porter Cable specific backing plates, designed in both 3" and 5" sizes. These are our very own backing plates - developed in house and researched to the point where we could put a guarantee on them.

Re: backing plates?

For the Porter Cable 7424 XP you will need to buy an after market backing plate. I recommend the Lake Country 6" Hook and Loop (aka Velcro) or the 4" Backing Plate. They simply just screw on to the PC 7424XP with the supplied wrench. We also have some great package deals on our buffer page that get you all the pads, backing plate and pad cleaners you need at a discounted price. Let me know if you have any questions.
