Re: Cleaning brakes

I recommend the G2 kit.....others have used the Duplicolor kit with success...but it doesnt have the color choices of the G2

Re: Cleaning brakes

Id recommend removing the calipers to paint, but not from the brake line. it till get a more even coat on it and make sure it comes out nicer. That and you wont have to worry about tapping stuff up, just throw some newspaper under em and put them on the rotor or a box or sumtin.

Also dont use that brake caliper paint in the parts stores, its flakes off when washing.

Mine hasn't flaked off. Did you try cleaning the caliper/rotor before painting them :)

Re: Cleaning brakes

Just wondering, how long will the paint last if i paint my calipers with that brand you guys suggested.

Thanks.

Did mine in march and they are still perfect, no signs of chipping of anything. All i have to do to clean them is wipe them with a sponge when washing the car and they look like i just painted them. i dont know the prices of the other kits, but the $20 dupli color worked great for me. I was going to use the spray, but after seeing whats involved no way, im too lazy to take the caliper off or mask under the entire wheel well from overspray.

Re: Cleaning brakes

umm, please tell me the people that asked if you need to take the rim off to paint the calipers are kidding right? yea taking the wheels off is a good idea. unless u tape the brush to a stick, shove it thru the rims, and dont mind paint dripping on ur rims. I did mine with the $20 red dupli color paint kit and came out great. I left the calipers on, used the tape in the box they give and spent some time masking off the pads and parts i didnt want paint on. I prob did about 4-5 coats to each one, all at the same time. Worked top down on the caliper then by the time I got to the bottom it was ready for another coat. Comes with a cleaner also but i ran out cuz I went crazy cleaning everything i picked up basic brake cleaner from walmart. I mounted the rims about an hour later and they were fine. I still have about 3/4 of the paint left, so I can redo them every year if i want.

If anyone is up in the air about painting there calipers i'd say do it. Not sure the cost of other brands, but I spent under 20 bucks at the auto store for the Dulpi-Color Red brush on paint kit and it makes a world of difference. Even with stock rims it makes them stand out like they are expensive after market calipers if done with a color that stands out. I've past by a WK with the calipers painted a silver, had stock rims on it and it looked great. With the red kit I have on everyone automatically notices the calipers because of the color. I have a habit of looking thru the Dupont Registry magazine all the time, where they sell high end exotics. I think its awesome seeing a lime green Lambo and the calipers match. Scotts right, with the Dulpi-color they stock basic colors, at least at the auto stores. All I have seen are black, silver and red. I did such an anal job of cleaning off the calipers before I applied the paint that its adhered perfect and shows no signs of coming off soon. Plus the calipers do not get that hott, next time you go for a long drive and brake alot get out and feel the surface of the calipers, not scorching hott. So the Dulpi-color kit is fine for normal operation.

Look at the difference from unpainted and painted. God dam it, its only 20 bucks, DO IT!!!!!

That what I used was the spray can Duplicolor caliper paint. Mine were rusty at the time so I had to scrub the crap out of them with a wire brush and some brake cleaner, its still holding up though.

Now I have to paint my new rotors becasue they are rusty.....should have done it when I put them on!!!
