I've been getting a lot of questions about a good buffer/polisher and what pads to use. This buffer and starter kit IMO is great for starters

ANY one can use this kit.......you can buy the Meguiers professional line of cutters, polishers at most auto parts stores to use with these pads. They are usually around $10.99 a bottle and will last you for a couple years. My local Oreillys auto parts carries this line for $10.99 a bottle.
The detailedimage.com also carries a full line of cutters, polished, sealants etc. They always have monthly specials and daily specials and ship same day.

Scott I completely agree the Porter Cable 7424XP is the way to go. Porter Cable just upgraded the 7424 to the new 7424XP. The link you posted I don't think was working so I'm going to put up some other links.

Porter Cable 7424 XP 6.5" Basic Kit
Porter Cable 7424 XP 6.5" Kit
Porter Cable 7424 XP 6.5" Advanced Kit

Here is why I think the buffer is so helpful. If you really want to improve the shine of your paint you really need to polish the surface. Glazes, sealant and waxes can only enhance the way your paint currently looks. However swirls, oxidation are normal problems that every clear coat has. These imperfections cause light to fragment and give you a dull shine. So before you apply any glaze, sealant or wax fix the problems with some polishes. Polishes will help permanently fix the problem and ensure the surface is smooth and glossy again. You can polish by hand but polishes need significantly more heat and pressure to be broken down and worked in to the surface. A random orbital buffer like the Porter Cable 7424XP provides safe levels of heat and pressure that can really work a polish in effectively. It's easy to use for first time detailers and it can't burn your paint like a rotary buffer can.

I typically recommend most detailers on new and old vehicles alike to use a medium and light cutting polish. I apply the medium polish with the orange pad and the light polish with a white pad. My favorite polish combo is the Menzerna PO83 (medium) and the Menzerna PO106FA (light). If you want some less expensive options try the Menzerna Intensive Polish (medium) and Menzerna Final Polish II (light).

If you have any other questions about these buffers, polishes, etc. please let me know. We have all of these products at www.detailedimage.com and we offer 10% off (coupon code 10offJG) on almost all individual items (Sorry buffers and buffer kits are not applicable). Thanks for reading!

Nothing Fancy.

But this is what we use. It does quite a nice job, as ya'll can tell with the tails quality.

More for a high production shop I assume.

Cheaper for us to buy in bulk since we go through so much of it.

Yes. I wouldn't mind getting more info on some. If what we use could be replaced with something better, I would like to know.
