First time detailing

This may kind of be answered in other posts, but many are older, and products have changed or new ones introduced.

I recently got 2 used GCs, and one of my biggest beefs is how quickly they can look dirty. With that, I want to use some hydrophobic stuff all over, body and glass, and am thinking a long-term sealant or coating would be one way to go.

My question is: am I stupid to think that I can apply something that will last more than a month and do it without harming my jeeps?

I can wash and wax a car, but I haven't clay-barred anything yet. I saw the Karate Kid in its original showing, so I get wax application. But I want a shiny finish that will slough off dirt or wash off very quickly and not need to be reapplied every time I turn around.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: First time detailing

Wax is slowly being phased out of the detailing industry because sealants and coatings last 10-100x longer! I highly suggest a ceramic coating from adams polishes. It's so easy to use and protects for years....yes years! The only caveat to a permanent ceramic coating is the paint must be perfect or as close to.perfect as you can get it. No swirls, scratches, holograms etc. I suggest you look at adams polishes subforum and explore their website. They do have sealants and the such as well...V
But ceramics are the way to go. I'm here to help...so ask away!

Re: First time detailing

My jeep that is 3 years and 7 months old. I've only used ceramic coatings on it since new. So easy to care for...sometimes I only use water at the car wash to wash it. The power of the spray is enough to wash it..per say. I do wash it...but not like my other jeeps. Maybe once.per month.IMG_20170121_142446_631.jpg

Re: First time detailing

Check out Adams Polishes. The Waterless Wash and Detail Sprays are wonderful, especially when it's cold out and you don't want to get wet. Wash without water right in the garage. I haven't used the sealers yet but have been looking into them. I like the 3M Show Car Wax and have been looking at the 3M synthetic wax, supposed to be good to six months. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

Adams Polishes is a Jeep Garage vendor, I think there is a discount code in here somewhere. They have a thread.

Re: First time detailing

Thanks... that's the next problem... which products to use. I was leaning, after reading, toward something like 22ple, but am open to ceramic suggestions. I can even do it inside, to help with getting anything on the vehicles while working on them.

I'll check out Adams, too.

so, from what I'm reading, with some basic care, and following a good regimen, this shouldn't be too daunting of a task?

For the clay bar, are new products easier/better?

Re: First time detailing

It's been a while since I posted my questions... I ended up getting a bunch of CarPro stuff from Detailed Image. So far, everything is working great. I used Hydro2 for a shorter-term sealant, but will do ceramic early in the summer.

Chemical Guys seem to have a great leather serum I'm going to try on my dash and seats... uv protection and matte finish.

Here are post-hydro2 and post drying. Griot's Garage PFM drying mf is really something to dry a vehicle.

I like 303 aerospace protectant, on dash and leather seats. Read the reviews on detailed image. Leaves a nice clean non oily finish that repels dust on the dash. Follow the direction and I'm sure you'll agree that this stuff awesome and very easy to use. A little goes a long way!
