Getting Swirls Out

I washed my car the other day and it looked great in the day time, the paint looks flawless. Cant see swirls at all. But at night when it is under the lights in parking lots, you can see tons of swirls in the paint. It bugs me and I cant seem to get them out. What is the best method or product to use to get them out?

Re: Getting Swirls Out

X2 and then use some glaze, sealant, wait 12 hours, sealant again, then use some #26 wax for ultimate finish trust me that equals no swirls !!!

Re: Getting Swirls Out

Ok guys thank you. Do I apply the M105/205 with the buffer and then wax over that?

Re: Getting Swirls Out

Yes you apply both with different pads with the buffer. Then apply a sealant or glaze by hand....let that set up....follow manufactures recommendations. Then apply carnuba by hand for the best results.

You should also use the two bucket wash method with grit guards in each bucket...one with clean water and the other with soapy water. This will minimize any marring and micro-scratching from occuring.

Re: Getting Swirls Out

X2 on what he said here's a quick step by step

WASH:

2 5 Gallon bucket wash method - 1 with soap and 1 with clean water, grit guard in clean water to clean off mit after each panel is soaped up

1 grit guard
1 wool mit
Shampoo (I prefer Chemical guys citrus wash)
2 waffle weave drying towels

clean and dry that's easy

CLAY: then clay bar the car with megs clay kit found at walmart for less than $15.00 comes with clay lube, 2 clay bars, towel and cleaner wax

COMPOUND: M105 - use PC 7424 there are tons of how to videos on autpia.org

POLISH - M105 same shit

GLAZE - either by hand or machine use #7 by megs ... kinda oily but that's the purpose very very thin layer

SEALANT - I just used NXT 2.0 by hand and loved it ... let it cure for 12 hours and then apply another layer

WAX - Any carnuba wax will do my preference is the dodo juice purple haze for my black jeep - also 2 coats with 12 hour cure times

Check out Scott's paint correction threads and also Irf B.P.O.D is a good source about auto detailing

Re: Getting Swirls Out

well shit. I went to buy M105 and M205 today and no auto parts store around town has either of them. They only have ultimate compound or stratchX and i dont know if I should use those. I have a day off tomorrow and I really want to do a paint correction. I am sick of these swirls.

Is the Ultimate Compound similar to the M105 and M205 and is it safe to use with my buffer? After I wash, clay, and compound, should I use NXT 2.0 wax to finish? I have alot of that already and it wouldnt make sense to buy a different wax until im finished with that one. I let the NXT set up for a couple of hours before I wipe it off correct or do I wipe it off and then let it sit for 2 hours before another coat? Sorry for the NEWB questions but I want to do this correctly.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Getting Swirls Out

ultimate compound is more than enough for taking out swirls! swirlx is also available and is stronger than 205

Re: Getting Swirls Out

I would highly recommend using a quality buffer and a two step polishing routine. The Porter Cable 7424 XP is very safe and easy to use. Combine that with the Meguiar's M105 and M205 to remove the swirls safely and permanently. Then apply your favorite sealant or wax to protect the paint and enhance the shine. Here are two awesome deals on kits containing those products:

DI Packages PC 7424XP with M105, M205 and 5.5" pads
DI Packages Porter Cable 7424XP, Meguiar's Polishes and Hydro Pads Starter Kit
