Just how bad is Brilliant Black for the OCD inclined?

I'm putting in my order for a Brilliant Black Overland on 1/3 and I'm having second thoughts about the color. I hear so many people say "I would never buy a black car", blah blah blah. And I get it. I have a tinge of OCD so I can see why it would drive me nuts for it to look dirty much of the time. I'm certainly not going to wash it once a week, though I might wash it every 2-4 weeks.

Dark Charcoal is my favorite color but they aren't offering it in the 2012. Brilliant Black is my second favorite. I suppose Mineral Grey is third and I'm not even sure about the new Maximum Steel. I've only seen a few pictures and it seems to have too much blue in it for my liking.

So many people gripe about hating black cars but it seems like Brilliant Black is one of the more popular colors.

So for those of you who have it, how bad/good is it? Are you still glad you have it or do you regret the choice?

I did have a Black xTerra for 5 years and I don't remember ever once thinking about how dirty it may or may not have looked. It just didn't occur to me.

Thanks!

Re: Just how bad is Brilliant Black for the OCD inclined?

Here is the deal. I have a black WK2 with a touch of OCD. As soon as the inclimate weather subsides I at least rinse it in the winter time. In the summer I wash and polish it with spray wax weekly. I love black but the thing is when its dirty it looks dirty no way of hiding it, but when its clean there is no better color out there for a classy looking vehicle.

Go for the BB and dont look back. I try to keep mine as clean as possible, either washing it once a week or just QD it. There is nothing better than a clean black vehicle!

Re: Just how bad is Brilliant Black for the OCD inclined?

I've always owned white cars. Went for a change and got brilliant black. I also heard all the same things. Also being summer here it's meant to get a lot hotter than a light colored car but I don't find any noticeable difference esp with uv tints. I'm still happy with my choice. The pearl does help to keep it looking good with some dirt on it. Check out my recent post in members rides. Water droplets whilst noticeable aren't that bad, I saw a flat black mitsubishi today that did look bad. The water droplets really showed out so I'm thinking the pearl coat really helps the OCD. Just gotta stop unlocking and locking it three times before I get in now!

I've had black and will not do it again. BUT if you want black go ahead and get it. You won't regret it.

Re: Just how bad is Brilliant Black for the OCD inclined?

My last 3 vehicles have been black, and love it .... when its clean.
Sure it shows dirt more, but like others have said - when its clean and polished no other colour looks as classy. IMHO.

Having said that, if BB was no longer offered, the White Gold would be my second choice.

Re: Just how bad is Brilliant Black for the OCD inclined?

never take it to a brush or soft-touch carwash, it will spider web your paint - it only takes one time. those touchfree doesn't clean well at all. the best way is hand wash yourself at home with 2 bucket method. keep a good polish/wax/sealant on it - i love Zaino, also use high quality waffle weave towels to dry your Jeep and microfiber for everything else, don't buy those 20 pack from Sam's either.

i've had a black audi tt, black bmw's - here's one of my current rides, it's definitely a PITA to keep it nice.

Re: Just how bad is Brilliant Black for the OCD inclined?

I had a 1998 Grand Cherokee that was Black Clear Coat, then I had a 2005 Grand Cherokee Bright Silver Metallic, and now I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee in Brilliant Black Pearl. I wash it usually once a week unless I can keep it clean for two weeks. I only use a touchless car wash that gets it clean. I have found two in town that I like where I just drive in and wait for it to automatically clean it (only water and car wash soap touches it), then I drive out and stop (these car washes have blowers but leave a little water behind. Then I take a small microfiber cloth and dry it good. I also use Perfect Detail Spray Polish (when it's pretty much clean) and a microfiber cloth to make it look brand new and perfect. I actually prefer black or brilliant black (to silver) because then I know when it's dirty. When I buy the new vehicle I get the Paint Protection/Polish that they sell and I apply that again every 6 months or once a year. That is important and easier than waxing, and better for this type of paint.

Re: Just how bad is Brilliant Black for the OCD inclined?

My old car, and now my wifes new car, was/is black. It's a 2003 CTS and when it is clean, it is stunning....but, the next day it is dirty. I used to have the time to wash it twice a week and it was looking HAWT....but as soon as you don't have the time, it looks like crap. Never again....I got a silver Wk2 and love it. I also think the silver shows off the lines of the car better than black after looking at them side by side.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion...get the black and make your own I won't lie in saying that when it is clean, it sure as hell makes you remember why you bought a black car!!

Oh yea, forgot to mention, I'm definitely OCD inclined. Today I cleaned under the hood and took off the license plates to clean behind those too. And I put two new shiny screws in for the front license plate.
