Re: Leather Steering wheel wear

I had mine cleaned and airbrushed because it was all worn down from sun damage and daily wear and tear. It lasted for a few months because I was careful with it but now it is starting to peel up and looks worn again. Its a quick and easy fix if you just want a temporarily better looking/feeling wheel.

Well at this point, i am going to call jeepsareus.com for a price on a factory vinyl steering wheel from a laredo. If thats out of the price range then i am going to have this one re covered.

THAT IS THE EXACT SAME COVER I GOT. Thats the neoprene streach on cover right?

The only thing i did was stitch it on. You know how its open in the middle area as in not tight. well that made me insane. So i took some 14lb test fishing line and a needle and i stitched it tight inside the wheel where the factory one is stitched. so now its nice and tight to the wheel. when i want i can just cut it off.

It wont fit, air bag setup is different. The only steering wheels that are interchangeable w/o issue is, 97 + XJ, with 97+ TJ, with 99 to 04 WJ. The older Xj (95 and 96) will work with the 93 to 95 ZJ. I am pretty sure the 96 to 98 ZJ is all on its own but you could always try i with a wj.

Re: Leather Steering wheel wear

Edit, Could not stand cover any more, cut it off and trashed it. Id rather deal with the sticky leather worn steering wheel until i fix it and not band aid it.

Re: Leather Steering wheel wear

I wish I could get an Overland steering wheel but the wood wouldn't match the limited trim and I don't think the Overland came with the regular khaki interior so the leather wouldn't match either

I have put wood/leather steering wheels in the Intrepid R/T I had (wheel came from a 300M), and in the MB C280 I had (wheel came from a R129 SL).

Wood/leather wheels are BA.

Same here, and at $800+ for one i will pass on that.

Besides i discovered that over time the "wood" has a clear coat that starts to crack and peel looking like shit any way.

Everyone thinks the leather steering wheel is so great but IMHO the Vinyl molded steering wheel in the laredo will out last the "nicer" ones.
