Re:Best wax.. Pics.. Tried em all, but this stuff is unreal!

Company name is Top of the Line
Wax came w purchase of Viper.
The only wax the company that I purchased the car from (selling exotic cars only) will use.

http://www.topoftheline.com/index.html

0 wax residue, comes off so easily, and creates unreal shine !
0 spider webs, and if paint is faded, or weathered, use " Light Cut " by the same company first, then apply the wax.

Microfiber towels only !

Lastly, for anyone with a dark colored Jeep, California Car duster is a must !

Hope all is helpful..
Pics of my recent Black/Pearl combo - 05 Limited, chromed rims, fully loaded will be posted when weather permits.

Regards to all

Re: Best wax.. Pics.. Tried em all, but this stuff is unreal!

Sorry but 99% of the finish is down to 'step 1' on the list - the paint cleaner. The contain mild abrasives to clean the paint and are generally filler heavy to hide swirls.

The wax may add something to the finish, but this is nothing compared to properly polishing or preparing the paint.

I have used everything from Meg's Gold Class (~$15) to Zymol Vintage (~$2000). What do I use and recommend to everyone now? Collinite 476s. Stupidly cheap <$20, lasts a good 6 months (two coats will last any Winter), easy to apply and gives a finish just as good as Vintage - actually compared side by side on the same prep'd panels...

Just my 2c.

Not to speak for marty but I think he wanted to state that the finish doesn't depend on the wax but on the prep work before the wax (compound/polish) with various pads/liquids.

marty - you like the collinite better than m16???

Irf nailed it above.

Meg's #16 is good, but is no where near as durable as Colly 476s (paste) or 845 (liquid). IMO a LSP is designed to lock in all the polishing work for as long as possible and Collinite does this better than anything I've tried and very little effort.

Marty,
Would you reccomend topping BFWD with either the 845 or 476s to enhance durability for winter? If I remember right, collinite is supposed to not have any cleaners so you can layer if you want right? Thanks in advance.

Not sure what BFWD is but if it is a wax/sealant/glaze then yes you can put a coat of either on top. Colly can be layered, two will ensure even coverage and more would be a waste of product/time.

So then, the wax(final) used is not necessarily a major factor if I properly understand the above threads? I was only trying to recommend an "IMHO" wax for the prized possession, after paint prep has been taken care of. Just trying to add another product possibility to the mix.
Exactly right. I could put a coat of Zymol Vintage on my swirled/scratched 1998 Civic daily driver and it would look no different to stuff from Walmart.

Making the paint as perfect as you can (machine polishing or hand glazing with filler heavy glazes) will make the biggest impact.

The info on durability is here:

They list the durability for their wax's on the site.
#915 is still my favorite. Especially for darker colors.
Funnily enough, a guy on a detailing world spoke to collinite about 915 and said they wouldn't use it or recommend it. Its just a product for people who believe more carnauba = better finish. Personally I'd save your money and get the other two for less but if you like it that's all that counts.

I will have to try the collinite
You will not regret it...unless you don't put it on thin enough.
BTW I spoke with the folks at Collinite regarding what the previous poster said about #915 they said it is completely false.:lol:

BFWD=Blackfire Wet Diamond...sealant. I've used it and love it, easy on, easy off. Paint prep is pretty important for it, and you have to wait approx 8hrs before layering another layer, or some 'nuba. Paint prep as you state, is pivotal to achieving the best "finish" once you are done detailing...for depth, clarity, reflection, gloss. And the comment, more carnauba is just to convince people it's better, well, it IS better. Not saying you have to spend 2k on some zymol, but there definetely a difference in a quality wax(the right blend of oils/nuba/etc), and something that has some nuba with a bunch of silicone, solvent and filler. And nothing is "pure" carnauba, in it's pure form, it's almost like a rock...what is used to soften it and blend it makes a big difference in getting the benefit of high content nuba. Just my 2 pennies
