A polished wheel will never look as good as a chrome wheel no matter what you use or how many times you polish it.

Just like a V6 can not be made to sound the same as a V8.

Re: Tuf Shine Tire Kit

Thanks! The reasoning for me is that once chrome chips, you're screwed. The clearcoated aluminum can be treated just like the paint on your Jeep, and if the clearcoat ever fails, you can always sand and and re-clear.

My aluminum gets frequently mistaken for chrome...so you get the shine and the ability to refinish yourself if you need to.

Re: Tuf Shine Tire Kit

Saw your reference to this post over on the WJ forum. That looks awesome! Look forward to your review after some drive time on the wheels/tires. The wheels look really good too. I may be getting another WJ (With lower miles, sunroof, leather, hopefully 4WD) in the summer. Going to be hard to decide whether to go SRT Reps or lifted with pics like that!

Re: Tuf Shine Tire Kit

Thanks! Will do....

No drive time yet, but after sitting for at least 2 weeks now, no peeling or cracking at all.

The street or off-road decision was a tough one for me. I came from a Wrangler on 35's, and a lifted XJ. When it came down to it, I not only liked the look, but in all honesty, I wasn't doing much off-roading at all. I spend the vast majority of my time on asphalt.

Re: Tuf Shine Tire Kit

Well, I got some miles on those Tuf-Shined tires...here's my "after" report.

This stuff holds up very well. Everytime I wash the Jeep, I wash the tires (one or two swipes around) with just regular car wash suds. The mitt comes out clean. Dirt does not stick and no residue is left behind. After some miles, they do lose some of the shine, but they do keep a new-looking matte finish. Here's a few shots after a wash:

A quick touch up with some additional TufShine product and this is what happens:

I can't explain how little of this product is needed to touch up...it's ridiculous. It's super thin and goes a REALLY long way. Overall, I'd love to see a product retain that ridiculous level of gloss, but I have to say I'm VERY happy with this stuff. No more goopy, greasy crap on the tires to attract road funk, and the tires always look clean. I highly recommend this kit. Just remember, whatever you do, it's all about prep. I have no doubt this will fail miserably if your tires aren't absolutely pristine when you lay on the first few coats.

If it isn't permanent it certainly won't be because you didn't prep them properly, that's for sure. You couldn't have possibly cleaned them any better. I envy your patience. A sterling virtue I wish I had more of.

Thanks dude....don't feel bad....my patience is limited to home and auto. I lack it terribly in just about every other possible department. It's a big reason I have no kids. Plus, I don't need any greasy little fingers messing up my tire shine.
