Ugh!! Paint chip on door!!!

Some idiot in some parking lot slammed his door in my Grand Cherokee!!! I have a 2015 JGC Altitude in Billet Silver. If people only respected other people's stuff. But that is for a whole other thread on a whole other forum.

My question is is the touch up paint even worth it, only the paint chipped, not the primer. I have talk with some people and they say it's not worth it due to the paint being metallic.

The chip is about half a pea size and is located on the front passenger side door right about the D in Grand.

I don't want to do anything that would make it look worst.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Ugh!! Paint chip on door!!!

That's a pretty good size chip to leave uncovered. I wouldn't be scared to do it. Silver is about the most forgiving of the metallics when it comes to matching with touch up paint.

I feel your pain, some nice person took a key(or something) and ran the full drivers door plus a little more towards front and back. Went thru the clear coat. Cutting compound couldn't get it out

Re: Ugh!! Paint chip on door!!!

If it is a chip, not a scratch, the Dr. Colorchip kit applied carefully can make it almost impossible to spot from more than a couple feet away. Pricey, but worth it.

If a scratch, Dr. Colorchip needs a lot of help and tends to be mainly a way of covering the scratch--doesn't look that good.

Agreed - Used this on my 2011 for a door ding as described above. I was very pleased with the results

Re: Ugh!! Paint chip on door!!!

Thanks guys I'm going to check out the colorchip kit.

overlanding. Same thing happen with my black 2012 Laredo. Hopefully it's just a paint transfer! I was about to get rid of it using some compound and a lot of elbow grease and then finished it off with some wax. Good luck!

Re: Ugh!! Paint chip on door!!!

Thanks! As soon as this snow storm passes I'm going to detail it and hopefully rid her of that ugly white scratch. I'm pretty sure most is just paint transfer but it still makes me sick

FWIIW, you might want to check with some of the paintless dent removal guys and see what they have to say. Some of them are pretty good with wet sanding and polish. I use a guy who repairs the show cars for AutoRama at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Before I bought my Jeep I had a Monte Carlo SS, all black. A couple of kids were playing in the back seat of the car parked next to me one day and swinging the back door of their paren's car open and closed. Sure enough they put a pretty good ding in the side of my Monte Carlo SS. My paintless dent removal guy took it out without a problem and with a little wet sanding and polish repaired the paint damage as well. He did such a good job I had him repair a couple of scrapes I did also with wet sanding and polish. He only charged me a total of $60 for everything. (interesting side point, he did all of my repairs in the parking lot of his wife's favorite restaurant) He told me he has repaired dents and paint damage as large as a basketball.
