We finnaly got the power turned backed on! Ok so I decided to leave my WJ outside the garage to keep the challenger and my moms GL inside, I had heard in the news that the hurricane had moved alittle south from us so I thought it wasent gonna be that bad, I was wrong!! Here in Mexico the storm drains don't function as well as the do in the US, and idk if any of you all have been in Mexico while it was raining but it gets flooded Fast!! Long story short...the water got up to about mid door level on both my WJ and my dads Denali...my question is what's the best way to get the most water out from the carpets and also how can I assure that it doesn't smell like a wet towel inside?? I've tried to vacuum some of the water out but it's still very damp on both my WJ and my dads truck.

Its a huge job and is usually an instant total on flood cars here in the states.

You have to strip EVERYTHING out of the cabin. Disinfect everything with a bleach and soap mix. Most the time the carpet and padding will have to be replaced as the odor and water smell will not come out of it. Also run an ozone generator and uv light to kill germs.

sorry dude, mother nature is a real **** sometimes. Least you and your family are safe.

Thanks man, well it might not be as bad as you may imagine, it's basically just the carpets that at wet. the seats, door panels, electronics, ect...weren't affected and have no water in them. I Feel bad for my dad cuz his trucks a 2009 and my wj is 2002 and I was about to sell it anyways because I don't use it anymore since I bought the Challenger SRT8. thanks for your input

use a carpet washing vacuum? id just use an actual carpet washer to suck up all the excess water, then clean them and let air dry
that's exactly what I'm using, we have a rug doctor carpet washer thing but the suction isn't enough to get it dry enough :/ I might take some shamwow's to it LoLoLoL

Basically there is raw sewage in his truck. Wish it was this simple...but its got to get stripped out.

Hey... look at it this way.. you can have a custom interior now

def take that carpet out as you will get mold underneath it. disconnect battery and let the rest of the inside air dry or run some fans if at all possible.

you could try an air dry of the carpet, by like hanging it up. then use your rug doctor before you put it back in.

I worked for SERVPRO fire, water and mold cleanup and restoration.

If you acted within 2 days of the damage there will be no mold.

What you need to do is remove the seats and all the lower trim.

100% remove the carpet. Dry the floor and clean it like sated above. Unplug any connection and make sure they are dry and re pack plugs with dielectric grease.

Go back to the carpet. There will be a multi colored pad glued to the bottom. Its called JUTE. You must remove all of this and dispose of it. IT WILL NEVER DRY IT WILL MOLD.

Clean the carpet with a mild soap and water mix and i generally use a pressure washer on a medium to light setting. let dry.

Once removed you can get new jute at any upholstery shop or in the carpet section of home depot. Buy enough to replace everything you removed. Once the carpet is clean and dry flip the carpet upside down and using 3m adhesive glue on new jute.

Or you can find auto upholstery shops that can buy you a 100% new carpet or a salvage yard or online store that sells FACTORY MOLDED Carpet.
